Press release from the issuing company

John Taylor is a Member of the Minuteman Press International President's Million-Dollar Circle for Top Performers; John Explains Why He Chose to Franchise with Minuteman Press and Reveals How He Has Grown the Business

Nashville, Tenn. – In his own words, John Taylor's Minuteman Press design, marketing and printing franchise in Nashville, Tennessee offers "all things print and branding, from business cards and high-speed digital services to vehicle wraps and exterior signage, and everything in between." After working with the previous owner to grow the business for twelve years, John is now celebrating four years as the owner of Minuteman Press located at 998 Elm Hill Pike.

Meet John Taylor

Like many business owners, John Taylor's journey to entrepreneurship began with finding his passion and then building from there. He explains, "In 1990, I worked the night shift in the bindery of a local calendar printer as I entered college. There, I learned to run small offset presses. And so it began!"

John continues, "Running two small printing company operations and the pressroom/R&D for an international playing card manufacturer over the next thirteen years, I trained in the 'art of print production.' It's truly an art form, but also a lucrative endeavor. I learned from, and was counseled by, some of the most talented businessmen, operators and technicians in America and Europe."

He adds, "When I decided to return home, I answered an ad with a printer in Nashville, the Minuteman Press franchise. It gave me another opportunity to do my favorite thing… grow a small printing company. The owner and I teamed up to stabilize his production, expand in-house products and services and cultivate an effective outside sales team. After 12 years, I bought the franchise. Then, I kicked it up a notch."

Today, John Taylor's Minuteman Press franchise meets the needs of today's business professionals and serves clients small and large including Sitel and iHeartMedia. Through Minuteman Press, John is able to offer a wide variety products and services for his clients. He explains, "Our objective is to be the single-source marketing solution for our clients. We proudly offer the following services:

  • marketing development & support
  • graphic design
  • high-speed digital printing
  • offset printing
  • full-line direct mail services
  • dye-sublimation printing
  • interior and exterior corporate branding (production and installation)
  • branded promotional items
  • web development
  • SEO strategy & implementation
  • hosted data management solutions
  • ALL sorts of signs and wide format printing on roll and rigid substrates."

Why did John Taylor choose to join the #1 rated Minuteman Press franchise family? He answers, "After 25 years of training, developing sales and production processes for others, it was time to do it for myself. As I planned my exit to start my own venture, the owner of the franchise, with whom I had worked the past 12 years, suggested I continue the work I had begun with the Nashville Minuteman Press franchise. The franchise offered continuity, excellent equipment, R&D, franchise priced equipment, as well as software/technical support that was well worth the investment."

John expands on the benefits of franchising with Minuteman Press, stating, "The franchise has offered our business a brilliant group of corporate folks that work hard to keep up with rapidly developing technology. Specifically:

They offer a great cache of experience in general business practices, as well as those specific to the printing industry.

They negotiate franchise pricing with many vendors we use every day. I never forget to ask a new vendor, 'What is the Minuteman Press franchise discount?'

They do research and testing that cuts waste, R&D time, and tough decisions with respect to brands and types of equipment to purchase.

The corporate IT folks provide, and support, the business management system we rely on most, FLEX. It manages all quotes, orders, invoices and reporting for the whole company. It's an imperative component and they do a great job."

Keith Cawley is Minuteman Press International Regional Vice President for the Heartland Region including Western Tennessee. He says, "John Taylor is a great example of a Minuteman Press franchisee who takes full advantage of all of the resources we make available to our owners. John pays close attention to our products, services, software, and franchise support programs, and it is great to see his business continue to grow and thrive in Nashville."

Rewards of Owning a Printing Business

Owning a Minuteman Press franchise means that John Taylor doesn't have to reinvent the wheel and he can be rewarded for his efforts. As he outlined above, with the foundation and franchise support provided by Minuteman Press International, John is able to focus on leveraging his prior experience and growing the business. He says, "The financial prospects/rewards are awesome, but the most rewarding part is to build on 'the big machine' and watch it work. The big machine is the business, as a whole. I love it when the people, processes and procedures come together to get things done. I have the most fun when I'm putting the puzzle together."

John continues, "Simply put, I can effect change. If I see a remarkable trend, a product line we should pursue or a necessary production or methodology change, and I can make it happen. The previous life was training. Now, as Minuteman Press franchise owner, it's real... all the cards are on the table."

Giving back to the community is also very rewarding for John Taylor and his dedicated team. They have supported many nonprofit organizations in and around Nashville including A Soldier's Child Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Nashville Rescue Mission, Alive Hospice, the Nashville School for the Arts, the Martha O'Bryan Center, several churches and ministries, and many more. John says, "Local charity is vital to the community, never mind the business benefits of a great network."

As the owner of his business and leader of his team, John Taylor is simply driven to thrive and keep going strong. His mornings involve getting everything ready for clients and production team leaders. John then runs production meetings, leads his marketing and sales team, and manages other aspects of the business such as product development and customer engagement. "My days get pretty full," he says, which is all part of the plan in continuing to build on John's Minuteman Press franchise success.

As a member of the Minuteman Press International President's Million-Dollar Circle for top performers, John Taylor has some valuable insights to share with aspiring entrepreneurs and future business or franchise owners. He says, "Buckle up. Being an entrepreneur is worth it, but not for the faint of heart." He concludes with authority, "If you want it, take it!"
