New Lexmark Software Customizes Output without Application Changes

Press release from the issuing company

LEXINGTON, Ky.,-- Lexmark International, Inc. today introduced new software that allows print jobs from business critical systems to be customized and distributed to network printers or multifunction printers automatically without making any changes to the customers’ legacy applications. “Optra Forms Director helps mainframe, AS/400 and UNIX customers make the transition to distributed network printing and gives them enhanced output options,” said Paul Rooke, Lexmark corporate vice president and president, Business Printer Division. “This software makes it faster and easier for customers to handle complex batch print jobs and significantly reduces the costs associated with the distribution of information to end users from these systems.” Lexmark’s Optra Forms Director is a Windows NT or 2000 server-based program that helps customize batch print jobs, such as paychecks, bank statements or invoices. The software automatically parses print spool files received from a host into a single job or many print jobs using Microsoft Visual Basic Script or JScript methods. These scripts insert instructions into the print data stream before the jobs are printed, enabling them to be automatically sorted, stapled, separated using a cover page, copied, collated, printed on both sides, offset stacked, faxed, or hole punched. Then, these individual print jobs can be printed to one or many Lexmark Optra laser printers or OptraImage multifunction printers located closer to users throughout an organization.
