ManRoland Makes Cartoon Book Available to Kids

Press release from the issuing company

MAN Roland is making available new and updated educational materials for children in the K-8 grades. The materials include an updated version of What Is Printing?, a colorful, easy-to-understand 16-page booklet in cartoon format illustrated by artist Mike Dammers. The booklet begins with Gutenberg and the first printing press, then briefly describes sheetfed and web offset production in a modern printing plant. Topics covered are pre-press, printing and post-press operations which take place in a commercial printing plant and demonstrate the many products which are produced by the industry. Brochures are available upon request in reasonable quantities at no charge. MAN Roland also is distributing a 29 x 40-inch color map of the United States. The map includes state boundaries but does not include states names. This allows Geography and Social Studies teachers to use the maps in class as teaching aids to help students identify the states. It is also in cartoon format. For example, it includes a graphical "Big Apple" for New York city and a person skiing down a pile of potatoes in Idaho. Other whimsical illustrations provide hints on the best-known products and features of the various states. A photo series of famous U.S. landmarks provides a border for the map. Also available is the "MAN Roland Circus," a collection of four-color, three-dimensional diecut animals, a circus wagon, and a clown printed on eight-point stock. Children can easily punch out and assemble the figures by themselves or as a classroom activity in connection with learning about printing.
