PostalVision 2020 Introducing New StartUp Competition at April Event

Press release from the issuing company

Inspired by the great success of their collaborative PIP StartUp Innovation event launched in Europe at Post-Expo 2017, program co-chairs Bernhard Bukovc of PIP and John Callan of PostalVision, are excited to be bringing this partnered initiative to North America during PostalVision 2020/8.0.

The new PostalPitch™ StartUp competition will invite entrepreneurs from all over the world to present their latest ideas, products and solutions to the greater global postal-parcel-logistics-delivery industry at PostalVision’s eighth annual event taking place at The Ritz Carlton, Pentagon City, April 3-5, 2018.

A jury of industry experts and audience representation will determine winners in selected categories. Awards will be presented at the full conference open reception following the PostalPitch™ event. Rules for StartUp participation and opening dates for applications will be announced in early December.

The Postal Innovation Platform (PIP) and PostalVision2020 have committed to partner on this initiative and make this a regular event, thus creating a platform for startups in the postal and logistics sector, connecting them with posts, logistics companies, potential investors and other stakeholders.

The critical role that startup innovation plays in the future of the postal ecosystem has been showcased at PostalVision 2020 events from the very beginning and we are proud to have served as an introductory platform for growing startups such as Matternet, Flirtey, What3Words, Fetchr, Doorman, ShipBob, Shippo, Starship, ParcelHome, Package Concierge and many others.

“PostalVision has always been a place for innovation, new ideas, and forward thinking,” said PostalVision Founder and Chairman John Callan.  “Our events have always showcased startups, entrepreneurs, and innovators,” he said, “but now we are formalizing that support with this new startup competition, PostalPitch.”  “With PostalPitch we are putting our postal & logistics StartUp concept, which we developed for the StartUp Innovation Jury during Post-Expo in Geneva, into a long-term format, thus creating a unique platform to connect StartUps with investors and postal & logistics companies,” explains Bernhard Bukovc, chairman of the Postal Innovation Platform.

More details about Postal Pitch will be announced soon, as well as a call for entrants.

StartUps and More at PostalVision 2020 / 8.0:

In addition to the startup competition, PostalVision has announced several key speakers for its April 3-5, 2018, annual event, including Paul Misener, Vice President for Global Innovation Policy and Communications, at Amazon. And Cooper Smith from business intelligence firm L2. More exciting speaker announcements will be coming soon!

The theme of the 2018 PostalVision event is “Daring – Sharing – Caring.”  Real progress is impossible without “daring” to take risks, and reinvention requires courage to make mistakes, to learn from them, and to try again. It means breaking the rules, which in some institutions is culturally discouraged. Yet deliberate disruption of conventional models has proven to be a key strategic approach for the most successful new businesses of the 21st century in many industries, including the postal-parcel-delivery sector.

“Sharing” not only defines new economic models in sharing of resources, assets, real estate, vehicles or data; it also refers to “coopetition” between once-competitors and new “asset-lite” business models are based on sharing knowledge and data. “Caring” is what all participants in our ecosystem need to do in terms of customer experience and new consumer demands, and also how governments need to ensure all citizens are cared for equally in terms of delivery and postal services. Caring is also an integral part of how our ecosystem should nurture the ever-expanding field of startups, entrepreneurs and innovators in our space.
