Mobile Printing Driver and New Wireless Print Servers Help Meet Growing Demand for Mobile Printing PALO ALTO, Calif.---May 13, 2002--HP today announced a mobile printing driver that allows users to easily print to network printers outside of their commonly used office-printing environments. The HP Mobile Printing Driver, available free of charge, was developed for the growing number of users who frequently work away from their offices and have the need to print information remotely from their notebook PCs. With two simple mouse clicks, the driver provides users a simple and convenient way to print to a wide range of printers in unfamiliar business environments. HP also introduced three HP Jetdirect print servers that allow IT managers to securely deploy and share network connected printers and scanners via wireless 802.11b or Fast Ethernet networking. The products -- the HP Jetdirect 380x external wireless print server, the HP Jetdirect 680n internal wireless print server and the HP Jetdirect 615n internal print server -- satisfy the need for simple, reliable and secure wireless printing as companies around the world bring wireless connectivity into their IT environments. "People who work on the go need to be able to print easily and without boundaries," said George Mulhern, senior vice president, HP Imaging and Printing Group. "Whether you're in your office or on the other side of the planet, HP is working to make printing as easy as getting a cup of coffee." HP Mobile Printing Driver Available for use with all HP PostScriptemulation-enabled laser printers, the HP Mobile Printing Driver works in the same manner as the familiar print command. Once installed, a user simply selects "HP Mobile Printing Driver" and enters the IP address or network identifier of the printer they want to use. The HP Mobile Printing Driver quickly establishes the print path and documents are quickly printed from the desired printer. The driver supports the Internet-enabled features of HP printers, allowing users to take advantage of advanced printing options, such as duplex printing and stapling. Moreover, using a free HP Web Jetadmin plug-in, IT managers can automatically have the HP printers in their network post their IP addresses on a printer's control panel, making it easier for a user to identify and print to particular printers. HP Jetdirect Print Servers: Fast, Shared Printing The HP Jetdirect 380x external wireless print server is designed to help small workgroups easily share a broad range of network-capable printers with USB ports on 802.11b wireless networks. The HP Jetdirect 680n internal wireless print server provides a simple and flexible way for businesses to share network printers with EIO, or enhanced input/output, connectivity slots in 802.11b wireless environments. Eliminating the need for network cabling, these wireless print servers can help IT managers save time and reduce costs by allowing printers to be placed in convenient locations and without tethers to a network node. The HP Jetdirect 380x and 680n wireless print servers are the first in the industry to offer advanced wireless security by supporting 802.1x authentication methods and dynamic encryption. They also support standard wired equivalent privacy encryption keys, are Wi-Fi certified and are compatible with IEEE 802.11b networks. The HP Jetdirect 615n internal print server allows workgroups to share network printers with EIO slots across the network and over the Internet in Fast Ethernet environments. The HP Jetdirect 615n, HP's highest performance print server, is two times faster than its predecessor. It offers the highest level of security of any HP Jetdirect print server and features embedded Web servers to securely transmit and receive content and e-services from the Internet.
