FDA Proposes Rule to Extend Nutrition Labeling Compliance Date 1.5 Years

Press release from the issuing company

Today the FDA announced a Proposed Rule on the new Nutrition Facts panel compliance date,  proposing to extend the deadline by 1.5 years.

While the new Nutrition Facts panel is already permitted for use on packaging, January 1, 2020 is the proposed date by which all FDA packaged product labels would need to comply.

Manufacturers with annual food sales of less that $10 million would have an additional year to comply.

Industry can submit electronic or written comments on the proposed extension of the compliance period once published in the Federal Register. The Proposed Rule is scheduled to be published on October 2, 2017 here

The USDA's Revised Nutrition Facts Panel proposed rule was moved to the "Inactive" list

by the Trump administration in July, causing some confusion in the industry. In effect, this means that USDA-regulated companies may use either the new or the old format. However, manufacturers should be aware that this is a complex decision based upon company, product and competitive details. Prime Label has helped many companies make this decision, and we're here to help you, too.
