Lanier Launches Web Solution for Storage, Retrieval and On-demand Printing

Press release from the issuing company

DocumentMall and Web-enabled copiers provide instant global access to critical files ATLANTA--June 10, 2002-- Lanier Worldwide, Inc. today introduced DocumentMall, a Web-based document storage and sharing solution that provides secure access to digital documents from anywhere in the world via the Internet. The DocumentMall solution, which provides seamless integration with one or more Web-enabled multifunction systems from Lanier, will be available immediately. "With DocumentMall, Lanier customers can share important documents with colleagues two doors down or two continents away," said Dominic Pontrelli, vice president of Marketing for Lanier. "The concept is simple. An end-user walks up to a Lanier digital copier/printer with hardcopy documents, navigates a simple Web browser on the LCD panel, selects a destination folder, puts the pages in the feeder, and touches one button. The Lanier system scans the pages, transmits the files to a secure Internet site, and stores them in the pre-selected folder. "Seconds later, authorized users can access that file from any PC with Internet connectivity including PDAs. The savings in time will be significant, especially for large-scale projects that involve multiple documents routing to content owners in numerous locations, or to reviewers who are traveling. Most important, DocumentMall provides the capabilities of a robust content management solution -- with no major IT investment, no software installation, no dedicated administrator and zero maintenance costs." Although DocumentMall is Web-based, its security features make it as bulletproof as any standalone document archive. The host site utilizes 128-bit encryption when transmitting documents and, can restrict access to authorized users. DocumentMall also ensures data integrity with multiple system redundancies and routine backups. DocumentMall can accept, store and index all types of documents and files, including scanned hardcopy files and documents that were created electronically, as well as, email, Web pages and PDFs. The solution supports 250 industry-standard file formats, allowing users to view files created in virtually any application without the need for the native application residing on the PC. In addition to viewing files, authorized users can also retrieve the source file and manage the folders. When required, these files can be output to Lanier MFDs to create high-resolution hardcopy versions, complete with professional finishing. Today, DocumentMall integrates seamlessly with four Lanier multifunction systems -- the 5622, 5627, 5635 and 5645 Digital Copier/Printer/Fax/Scan Systems. "The potential cost savings with DocumentMall are substantial," Pontrelli said. "One user can create a file in any application, upload it to the DocumentMall site, and have it reviewed by dozens of colleagues in a dozen different cities, all at the same time -- not one of whom needs specialized software loaded on their hard drive." Applications for the DocumentMall solution are wide-ranging. Lanier has recognized a need for DocumentMall in various vertical markets, including the legal, healthcare, education, and real estate, among others. "In the public and private sector, organizations have very few affordable options when it comes to full-scale, enterprise-wide document management," Pontrelli said. "DocumentMall bridges that gap in multiple markets, providing a low-cost, low-risk way for any organization to share ideas, collaborate on projects, exchange information and distribute documents around the world -- faster and easier than ever before."
