Bowne Set for Opening of New Chicago Financial Printing Operation

Press release from the issuing company

Sets New Industry Standard for Customer Service and Advanced Technology; Three Bowne Business Units Share Facility to Leverage Core Strengths CHICAGO, May 2 -- Bowne & Co., Inc., a global leader in delivering high-value document management solutions, announced today that its new 500 West Madison Street facility for financial printing and other Bowne business units will be officially open for business Monday, June 3. The new offices feature a host of amenities for customers, including on-site composition and digital printing capabilities, electronic links to other Bowne financial printing and production facilities worldwide, and sales and administrative offices. Bowne executives said the new and technologically advanced 75,000-square- foot facility is one of the finest operations of its kind anywhere in the global document management industry and, by far, the most advanced among Bowne's competitors in the Midwest. Bowne of Chicago and a predecessor company acquired in 1968, LaSalle Street Press, have occupied the current offices at 325 West Ohio Street for approximately 50 years. Bowne is now in the process of selling the West Ohio building. Three of Bowne's primary business units will work from the new facility: Bowne Financial Print, the world's largest financial printer; Bowne Business Solutions, delivering a full array of business process outsourcing services; and Bowne Enterprise Solutions, providing digital printing and electronic delivery of personalized communications. Bowne Business Solutions is already operating from the new offices following a recent move from 161 North Clark Street. "With the opening of this new, state-of-the-art facility," said Bowne & Co. Chairman and CEO Robert M. Johnson, "we are combining three business units in one location to leverage our core strengths of customer service and advanced technology across all three product lines and, thus, provide a complete array of efficient and effective document management services to our clients. In designing these offices, we are setting a new standard for service in our industry by anticipating our customers' every need down to the smallest detail so that we can exceed their expectations and help them achieve their business objectives." Customers in the Chicago area can use this 24-hour, seven-day operation for creation and review of financial documents through the various stages leading to completion and distribution. The facility provides a broad range of comforts and business amenities -- including one-touch control panels, plasma screens, wireless networking, and a host of multi-media capabilities -- that Bowne clients require as they cope with the stress and deadlines of managing documents involving business transactions, government filings and communications to their own customers.
