London’s Roundhouse transformed for Ubuntu Education Fund event with help from Drytac ReTac Matte 75 printable film

Press release from the issuing company

Bristol, UK - The stairwell of London’s Roundhouse venue was recently transformed with eye-catching temporary printed wall graphics for a charity event held in aid of the Ubuntu Education Fund. The stunning graphics were printed by Oasis Graphic Co. onto Drytac ReTac 75 Matte film, and formed part of a full event-branding package created and delivered by Fisher Productions.

The Ubuntu Education Fund is a non-profit organisation that provides world-class health and educational support to the orphaned and vulnerable children of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The charity’s May 2017 fundraising event – branded the Everything Everyday London Gala – brought together more than 300 guests and featured acclaimed music artist Laura Mvula, alongside a speech by one of the Ubuntu scholars. Funds raised at the event will help the Ubuntu Education Fund to establish a new primary school and complete more children’s pathways out of poverty.

Fisher Productions were charged by the Ubuntu Education Fund to stage the full event – including video, lighting, signage, graphics, and more. They approached Oasis Graphic Co. with regards to printing and installing the giant wall coverings – featuring a rising sun – for the foyer and stairwell area.

The Roundhouse is a performing arts and live music venue which was formerly a railway engine shed in Chalk Farm, London. As a Grade II listed building, it was important that any graphics could be installed and removed cleanly. Having previously used Drytac’s ReTac 75, Oasis Graphic Co. felt it would be the ideal solution for the project.

Stacey Bearne, Oasis Project Manager, explains: “Fisher Productions provided us with the artwork and we were charged with printing the graphics and installing them at The Roundhouse.

“We printed the graphics in-house on our Mimaki JV33 solvent printer. We’ve used the Drytac ReTac film a number of times recently for temporary graphics and it perfectly met the needs of the Roundhouse project. The graphics had to adhere to the rough concrete surface and – perhaps more importantly – they had to come off the walls simply and cleanly after the event. Drytac’s ReTac seemed to be the ideal solution.”

Part of the ReTac range of printable and permanently-peelable films, ReTac 75 is a 75µ (3 mil) white polymeric PVC film coated on one side with a pressure-sensitive low-tack repositionable polyacrylate adhesive. Suitable for use with solvent, eco-solvent and UV inkjet printers, ReTac 75 printable vinyl has been specifically developed for wall graphic applications.

Available in both glossy and matte versions, ReTac 75 enables users to install, reposition and remove graphics on numerous surfaces – such as most indoor areas, ceramic tiles, PVC flooring, sealed wood, and sealed concrete – without causing any damage.

The final graphic printed by Oasis Graphic Co. onto the Drytac ReTac film – which comprised eight panels – measured 10.5m-wide by 4.7m-high. On the project, Claire Butcher, Lead Production Manager at Fisher Productions, concludes: “The Ubuntu Education Fund were very happy with the end-result and thought the graphics looked great. The event was also a huge success, raising valuable money for this very worthy cause.”
