Leading North American printer selects LITHOMAN press from manroland web systems for Kentucky production facility

Press release from the issuing company

Continuing its best-in-class performance in the commercial print industry, Quad/Graphics has chosen a 64-page LITHOMAN for its state-of-the art production facility in Versailles, Kentucky. With the new LITHOMAN, the book production plant will receive a boost in productivity and efficiency.

The new press, which is undergoing installation now and will be production-ready in the third quarter of 2017, has a maximum production speed of 45,000 revs/h and consists of one web and four printing units with APL automated plate loading. It will be equipped with a Contiweb Splicer and an Ecoset/T dryer. The latest version of the PECOM-X controls with numerous automation features and the state-of-the-art control desk will be also included. The LITHOMAN is the second press of this series for the facility in Versailles.

“We made the decision to purchase the LITHOMAN because of the increased productivity and efficiency this press technology will provide our current operation,” said Tim Sands, Quad/Graphics Vice President of Press Operations. “We are always looking to implement equipment that improves production cycle times and reduces waste – a key to remaining the industry’s high-quality, low-cost producer. It’s also a win for our clients who will benefit from quicker makereadies and optimal quality provided through LITHOMAN’s advanced inline control functions.”

A Partnership Success Story
“We are very proud that Quad/Graphics has again placed its trust in our market leading LITHOMAN technology platform,” said Roman Herold, Deputy Vice President of Sales at manroland web systems. “We are glad that we have the chance to join with Quad/Graphics as a partner in the next step to strengthen their market position.”

Vice President of Sales, Jason Elliott, was impressed by the selection of the LITHOMAN’s automation package. “The pressroom will be able to see the positive impact right away of the automation package that comes with this press, and there will be immediate and measurable efficiency benefits,” he said. “The increased performance and page output without compromising quality, ease of operation with modern controls tools, and very low waste make this press a smart print solution for the modern offset pressroom.”
