Ford Bowers chairs Digital Print for Packaging Session on Technology Advances; Marci Kinter, Ray Weiss talk sustainability and color management

Fairfax, Virginia - When Smithers Pira planned the three successive events of Digital Print Week in Atlanta — 3D Printing for Industrial Applications (June 5), Digital Print for Packaging (June 6–7) and Digital Textile Printing US (June 8–9) — its conference organizers turned to SGIA for experts. SGIA is a Digital Print for Packaging sponsor, and SGIA President & CEO Ford Bowers sits on its Advisory Board.

Ray Weiss, SGIA Digital Imaging Specialist, will lead presentations on color management in both the Digital Print for Packaging and Digital Textile Printing conferences, and Marci Kinter, SGIA Vice President, Government and Business Information, will discuss the role of sustainable business practices at Digital Textile Printing US. Bowers will chair Digital Print for Packaging’s “Technology Advances 2” session June 7

We’re delighted to partner with SGIA on this event, and SGIA’s comprehensive role in Digital Print Week in both supporting and presenting at the event is a great asset to our established Digital Print for Packaging event and our new Digital Textile Printing event,” said Ciaran Little, Director of Operations — Americas, Smithers PiraSGIA’s speaking contributions from Marci Kinter, Ray Weiss and Ford Bowers reflect the breadth and depth of knowledge SGIA can draw upon to support both the package printing and the textile printing communities.”

Ford Bowers has been President & CEO of SGIA since January 2016. He entered the printing industry as an account manager for Miller Zell, a leading retail/POP print and service provider, in 2006. In 2008, as vice president and general manager of the Graphic Center at Miller Zell, Bowers led the company through the transition from analog (screen and litho) to mostly digital print production.

Marci Kinter oversees the development of management resources for SGIA and represents printing industries before federal and state regulatory agencies and the US Congress. She is a member, and Secretary, of the Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technologies. In 2001, Kinter received the William D. Schaeffer Environmental Award for significant advancement of environmental awareness in the graphic arts industry.

Ray Weiss provides solutions and technical information on digital printing and equipment, materials, and vendor referrals. His more than 25 years in the graphics industry has featured extensive experience in color management, including working with the Smithsonian Institution to implement a color-managed workflow in its exhibits department. Weiss oversees SGIA’s Color Management Certification program and several workshops, including SGIA’s Color Management Boot Camp.

“SGIA has always been on the leading edge of digital imaging technologies – our members were early adopters and champions of this technology,” said Bowers. “We have a very knowledgeable team, and we’re proud to share our knowledge at Digital Print Week.”
