State-owned Hungarian printer primed to increase exports

Press release from the issuing company

Pénzjegynyomda Zrt (Hungarian Banknote Printing Company) is one of the oldest printers in Hungary. Founded by the National Bank of Hungary in 1922, the state-owned company prints Hungarian Forint and different types of security documents for both domestic and foreign markets. Passports, postage stamps, vouchers, certificates, paper-based documents and plastic cards -- all of them requiring a high level of security -- are printed by Pénzjegynyomda Zrt.

Recently the company acquired a contract to produce passports containing electronic chips for Mongolia -- the latest in their growing list of print orders from overseas.

To fulfill the increasing export demands and guarantee print quality, Pénzjegynyomda Zrt installed a new ROLAND 506 LV hybrid (conventional and UV inks). The press is equipped with various value added printing functions such as InlineColorPilot (ICP) with Inline Register, Rainbow printing (IRIS), capability to use fotopolimer plates, IntegrationPilot smart Spectrodrive, Telepresence and two circles of washing devices.

Mrs Zsuzsanna Halabrin, the company’s R&D Director: “The fast developing technology unfortunately influences the document counterfeiting methods as well. In order to make the personal identification more secure there is a need for better quality products that are safe against counterfeiting on a higher technical level, this means a serious challenge in the life of security printers. Pénzjegynyomda Zrt decided for this reason in favour of the ROLAND R506LV. The new machine will have a dominant role in manufacturing documents with high security features.”

A security document may consist of 12 different colors. With the six printing units, it is easier to use a bigger number of inks in one run. The new machine is capable of printing with a wide variety of inks, substrates and plates, so the security elements can be very different from the usual printing. At the same time the production can be highly automated. For example, the color quality is automatically monitored by the InlineColorPilot (ICP).

With the 0B format and 0B plus format, ROLAND 500 is ideal for long runs of small format jobs, such as passports, labels, greeting cards, coupons, tourism postcards, direct mail shots, promotional postcards, security printing and special poster formats, etc.

Mrs Zsuzsanna Halabrin: “Thanks to this highly automatic and flexible press, we are now able to print more with a shorter turnaround, and the products are well controlled.”

Manroland and Pénzjegynyomda Zrt have a long-standing relationship. The ROLAND 506 LV hybrid is the latest press provided by Manroland to the Hungarian security printing giant.

Installation by the Manroland service team was ahead of schedule, and comprehensive training was given to Pénzjegynyomda Zrt's staff on the full capabilities of the R500.

“We do appreciate and treasure our long term partnership with Manroland,” said Mrs Halabrin.

With the new ROLAND 506 LV, Pénzjegynyomda Zrt are well equipped to increase growth and expand further into the export market.
