Longtime MBO America Partner Expands Finishing Capabilities with BSR 550 Servo Rotary Die Cutter

Press release from the issuing company

MBO Equipment Featured in Company's New State-of-the-Art Digital Division That Launches this Month

Philadelphia - MBO America today announces that its longtime partner, Solo Printing, has installed an array of new MBO finishing solutions. At the top of the list is MBO's BSR 550 Servo, which gives Solo in-house die cutting for the first time. The company also added two more MBO folders to postpress: the modular M80, and the MBO T535 - both of which offer the flexibility and speed frequently required in today's short-run, on-demand environment.

The installation of the MBO BSR 550 Servo Rotary Die Cutter comes as the company launches its digital division.

An MBO America customer since the early 1990s, Solo Printing's expansive 180,000 square-foot facility in Miami, Florida serves the retail, travel, communications, and electronics industries with all types of applications, from brochures and publications to self-mailers, catalogs, and a variety of other printed materials.

Still in school when Solo was established in 1985, Hernandez -- the nephew of owners Manny and Jorge Hernandez -- kept a close eye on the company, and in parallel studied the evolution of technology in the printing industry. As a result, he is today instrumental in creating and maintaining a progressive posture at Solo.

"We are close to our customers, and therefore we can focus on the methods and technologies that we know will help them grow their own businesses," Hernandez says.

"Die cutting is a process we've always outsourced, but the tremendous growth we experienced in the past year allowed us to move the process in-house, and therefore make it less costly. It's a great example of meeting the challenge to expand while keeping as many services in-house as is possible."

Regarding the choice in die cutting equipment, Hernandez says that MBO, once again, proved to be the best candidate for the job. "No other units were as sophisticated and robust as the BSR 550 Servo. We have such a longstanding relationship with MBO that we were confident this was the right choice. Of course, we still did our due diligence," he says.

"In addition to the fact that the BSR 550 Servo has the upper hand in terms of technology and ROI, we have no reason to start working with a whole new company," Hernandez says. "We know MBO will give us the steadfast support we have always relied on."

The BSR 550 Servo rotary die cutter processes both single and folded products. Its innovative engineering allows it to process mailings, greeting cards, folding cartons, labels, and many other products in a one-up or multi-up production setting. Because of its flexible dies, the BSR 550 Servo can punch, cut, kiss cut, perforate, score, and deboss.

"This machine is a workhorse that can handle a wide variety of demands, while producing excellent results every time," Hernandez says. "Having something this sophisticated, in-house, gives Solo Printing a major competitive advantage.

"Because the BSR 550 Servo rotary die cutter does everything in one pass, our turnarounds are faster and we are more efficient. This translates to even greater relationships with customers."

The Solo management team, Hernandez says, has been impressed by MBO's sophistication. "It gives us that much more of an advantage as we enter new realms in the printing world," Hernandez says.

"This is the next evolution of our relationship with MBO."
