Xerox Showcases Program to Develop the Next Generation of Print Industry Workers at Graph Expo

Xerox is answering the call to train the next generation print industry workforce with the Xerox® Digital Career Pathway Program, which will be highlighted on Education Main Street in booth #570 at Graph Expo which takes place Sept. 25 – 28 at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center. 

Formerly known as the Xerox School to Career Program, the Xerox Digital Career Pathway Program is a trade program that provides students the opportunity to learn digital print production skills and knowledge they need to succeed. The program includes competencies and curriculum built by industry leaders, technology education, and support services for on-site and remote training to enable effective digital production printing training. The program is currently in use in multiple states and supports the future of the print industry through education of K-12 students, community and technology colleges, state and government agencies, and corrections and juvenile facilities.

“Beyond showcasing Xerox’s innovation in the graphic communications space and helping customers discover new ways to capture growth opportunities at the show, we are thrilled to be on Education Main Street to share our excitement and expertise with the future minds of the industry,” said Bob Hivish, manager, Public Sector Programs, U.S. Large Enterprise Operations, Xerox Corporation. “As a company, we place a large emphasis on providing future graphic communication workers the tools they need to jumpstart their careers and innovate the industry.”

Through this workforce development program, the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles (YWCA GLA) recently began training students in digital printing, computer programming technologies and finding them jobs with local businesses. They also implemented a new Xerox in-house print center to centralize printing and serve as a digital learning academy for at-risk youth.

“By meeting the emerging need of a business community and, at the same time, providing hope to at-risk youth, we’ve created a partnership that is truly making an impact in our community,” said Faye Washington President and CEO, YWCA of Greater Los Angeles.

The new program and services has enabled the YWCA GLA to:

  • Centralize control of printing for 11 sites throughout Greater Los Angeles
  • Decrease print costs by 80 percent and significantly improve turnaround times
  • Respond to the needs of the local business community through workforce development
  • Create a new revenue stream by offering print services to outside businesses
  • Aid and empower at-risk youth by providing new skills and opportunities

The Xerox Digital Career Pathway Program curriculum aligns with the required competencies as defined by the industry and within the PrintED Accreditation process. The program is developed in conjunction with recognized industry leaders and ensures students graduate with up-to-date knowledge and skills, as researched by Xerox and its partners.
