EFI selects BDT Print Media to provide versatile automated material loader

Press release from the issuing company

Using the BDT Tornado Technology for the groundbreaking high speed EFI Nozomi C18000 single-pass LED digital corrugated inkjet press

  • Tornado based loader provides automated feeding and registration of corrugated packaging, commercial print and commercial graphics substrates;
  • Introduction of Tornado based automated loader to take place as part or worldwide unveiling of EFI Nozomi C18000 during DRUPA 2016 in Dusseldorf, Germany (May 31 - June 10, 2016) at EFI booth in hall 9 – A40

Rottweil/Germany -- BDT Print Media GmbH is pleased to announce that it has been selected by EFI to provide the world's first automated high-speed loader utilizing the BDT Tornado technology as part of the groundbreaking EFI Nozomi C18000 single-pass, LED digital corrugated inkjet press. The Tornado Loader will be capable of feeding at speed the widest range of sheeted production print substrates in the world, including paper, corrugated packaging, commercial print substrates and commercial graphics media, and is an enabling element of the expanded print capabilities of the new Nozomi C18000. EFI will be introducing the Nozomi C18000, combined with the Tornado Loader, at DRUPA 2016 in Dusseldorf, Germany from May 31 to June 10, 2016.

The Tornado Loader on the Nozomi C18000 incorporates the revolutionary patented BDT Tornado technology for media separation, lift, transport and alignment. The fully electronic control of the Tornado technology allows for media feed parameters to be stored in the feeder memory and used to automatically configure the unit.

The new EFI Nozomi C18000 uses single-pass, LED, digital inkjet technology to print direct to corrugated and paper for the production of packaging and merchandise displays. The automated Tornado Loader supports feeding of substrates up to 1.8m X 3.0m at speeds up 75 linear meters per minute into the Nozomi C18000 press. The programmability and automated configuration of the loader reduces media changeover time and improves machine utilization in print applications requiring media versatility. It also eliminates the need for specially trained or dedicated material handling operators for the press.

"This promising partnership, with the unique feeding capabilities BDT offers for digital corrugated packaging production, helps us deliver more value to customers in a high-speed, reliable system that accelerates the analogue-to-digital transformation in the packaging space," said Scott Schinlever, senior vice president and general manager, EFI Inkjet.

"We are very pleased to have been selected by market leader EFI to participate in the groundbreaking Nozomi C18000 program", said Ralf Hipp, CEO of BDT Print Media GmbH. "Our Tornado Technology represents the most radical advance in media handling in over 30 years, and it enables levels of versatility, automation, and productivity not possible before for packaging and commercial graphics printers. Thanks to the Tornado Loader we are confident that no other high speed digital press in the world will have the media handling capabilities of the Nozomi C18000."
