locr creates giant world map on super wide EFI inkjet printer

Press release from the issuing company

Braunschweig, Germany – locr GmbH, (www.locr.com) the world’s leading provider of personalized maps and geolocation services, announces that it has supplied a giant map of the world which has been printed by EFI on its booth at drupa.

The map has been printed on a super wide inkjet printer by EFI and measures 7.5 metres long and 5 metres wide. The map is a single high-resolution image that is 59054 pixels long by 39369 pixels wide in one 220Mb jpeg file.

locr has created the map based on open-source geo-data and using its proprietary cloud-based map creation and rendering system. The map has been generated automatically using parameters that control the coloring according to altitude, latitude and other geographical features. The level of detail is also completely data-driven showing towns and cities in every country of the world in their precise geographical location and in multiple typographic scripts for different countries.

locr uses OpenStreetMap as its geo-data source, enabling it to provide maps of any region of the world, at any level of detail that are highly accurate and up to date. locr has developed the sophisticated rendering technology to provide the highest quality map images in different styles for different kinds of print applications ranging from one-off very large maps such as the one printed by EFI today to print runs of millions of unique maps for personalized direct marketing applications.

locr can combine its world-class rendering techniques with advanced geo-information and geo-analytics to provide navigational maps showing shortest or fastest routes from a unique recipient address to a brand's destination such as a retail store or sporting venue. These maps are used extensively by major brands such as Deutschland Card, Porsche, Toyota and Telekom to add visual impact and increase response rates in direct mail campaigns ranging from hundreds to millions of recipients.

locr is delighted to be able to partner with EFI to demonstrate the wide-ranging capability and exceptional quality and detail of locr maps using EFI super wide inkjet printing technology. locr personalized maps will also be printed on the new generation of high-speed inkjet devices on other booths at drupa 2016. EFI and our other partners are able to show visitors to drupa how maps can add value to a wide range of printing applications including direct mail, photobooks, posters and even giant display banners such as the example printing by EFI today.
