C.P. Bourg to first-time demo in-line perfect binding solution integrated with Canon and MOHR at drupa 2016
Wednesday, May 25, 2016
At drupa 2016, C.P. Bourg will exhibit, for the first time ever, an integrated in-line perfect binding solution with a MOHR BC-360 trimmer for the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra+ digital printing system. The solution will be demonstrated at the Canon booth in Hall 8A.
The combined solution provides a fully automated production workflow – from print to ready-to-ship books – giving printers a proven way to optimize production time and labor costs, while maximizing quality.
The Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra+ is a highly productive digital printing system. It is designed to satisfy diverse high-end production requirements. Its unique Gemini technology uses a single engine to print both sides of a page (up to 314 A4 images per minute) in a single pass. Reliable, intuitive, and built to last, the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra+ delivers speed, uptime, quality and ease-of-use.
Fully automated and highly versatile in-line binding with Bourg solutions
The Bourg Binder BB3202 also called by SDD: “BGB3202” provides an intervention-free, in-line perfect bound book manufacturing process, from web to finish. Full integrity check for cover content matching is achieved with the barcode system. Unique variable knife creasing optimizes the making of books with multiple flaps or publications with inner flaps, such as medical prescription books.
“With the Bourg BB3202 / BGB3202 perfect binder attached directly to the printer, Canon customers can benefit from fully automated book production. Books are finished in one single operation and are immediately ready for distribution,” commented Arnoud Kerkhof, Sales and Marketing Director at SDD, a C.P. Bourg distribution partner to Océ/Canon customers.
Automated precision trimming
The MOHR BC-360 one-knife trimmer automatically cuts perfect-bound or saddle stitched-products. It enables A4 landscape books to be trimmed on all three sides. The robust cutting unit guarantees a precise cut that is gentle on the material. To increase performance, several stacked products can be cut simultaneously. Operated by touchscreen, it is easily integrated with a digital workflow and can be equipped with a barcode reader to automatically launch the cutting program, reducing setup time to practically zero.
Customized for use with C.P. Bourg solutions, the MOHR BC-360 has exceptionally fast motors and controls and a large gripper for trimming books up to 60 mm thick, with a maximum waste trim of up to 52 mm. It also features RF/QR barcode readers and full preparation for both in-line and off-line feeding.
“We’re very excited to work with C.P. Bourg and Canon on this new solution for the in-line production of books,” commented Peder Rejmers, Head of Business Development at Adolf MOHR Maschinenfabrik. “With our shared attention to quality and reliability, it was obvious to us that by working together, we could make the perfect solution for the industry, and I am confident everyone seeing the outcome will agree.”
Sacha-Vittorio Paolucci, Commercial Director of C.P. Bourg, added: “We are proud to showcase the world premiere of the first fully automated in-line perfect binding solution with the MOHR BC-360 at drupa 2016. This three-side trimmer is the first of its kind to enable in-line connectivity without compromising the book stacking feature and off-line feeding capabilities of the MOHR BC-360.”
Mark Lawn, Director, Professional Print Solutions, Canon Europe, says: “A key focus for Canon is on creating end-to-end solutions to help customers enhance their value propositions and increase their production efficiencies, so we are always investigating ways to work with market leading partners to deliver new solutions. With digital book printing being an area of growth for customers, we’re delighted to be able to integrate our high speed VarioPrint 6320 Ultra press with the Bourg BB3202 perfect binder and MOHR BC-360 trimmer to offer our customers a complete book production solution of the highest quality.”
Live demonstrations of the integrated book printing and finishing solution will take place at
drupa 2016, in the Canon booth, Hall 8A.
