Kala launch "Starter HR" heat-assisted roller laminator and "KalaXY 1650" automatic cutter

Press release from the issuing company

Kala, French manufacturer of print finishing equipment, is launching a new range of “heat-ready” laminators. The “Starter HR” (like its predecessor, the classic Starter cold roller laminator) is designed and manufactured in France using the highest quality components to ensure longevity and optimum results.

With a heat-assisted top roller the Starter HR can achieve fixed-temperatures of up to 40 ° C, reducing silvering and producing the optimum finish. This entry-level laminator is incredibly easy to use with 3 pressure levels exerting uniform pressure across the rollers. The Starter HR can handle simultaneous mounting and laminating of a single side, coloured backgrounds and mounting onto boards up to 2” thick.

Available in 3 widths, 108 cm (43”), 140 cm (55”) or 160 cm (63”), its small footprint make it ideal for sign-makers, photo-labs and print-shops.

Kala has further added to its product range with a new semi-automatic X Y cutter, the KalaXY 1650, which cuts rolls of wide-format print into finished sheets.

The KalaXY saves both time and money by increasing the efficiency of otherwise lengthy and repetitive cutting jobs, which can cause a bottleneck in production. It can be operated easily by anyone in the workshop with no need for a specialist operator.

This machine is capable of cutting a 52”, 50m roll of print into A4 sheets in 5 minutes. In comparison, cutting the same job by hand, even with an electrical trimmer, would probably take 2 operators half a day. The savings in labour costs mean that the KalaXY effectively pays for itself within a period of 6 months to one year.

A feature exclusive to the KalaXY is its ability to read an automatic stop mark. This stops the machine automatically to allow a manual change of blade position, making cutting different sizes of print on the same roll much simpler and with an accuracy of +/- 1 mm. This functionality requires the file to be pre-prepared with these cut marks.
Longitudinal trimming is programmed via the LCD control panel and can be run in 3 modes. The rotating blades cut material up to 1 mm thick and 1650mm wide and the machine adapts perfectly to a variety of materials including photo paper, encapsulated substrates up to 250 μ (10ml), vinyl and light PVC banner.

A major benefit for owners of Kala’s 65” Laminators, is that the KalaXY 1650 has the same 3” self-locking shafts allowing rolls to be easily transferred from laminator to cutter, a valuable time-saving.
Founded in 2003, Kala is a European leader in the manufacture of large format finishing equipment with a presence in 80 countries through its distributors. Kala is known for embracing advanced technology and designing all its laminators, ensuring all are APAVE certified and comply strictly with CE / RoHS standards.
