East Sussex-based digital print company Elephant Print and Display has announced the purchase of an HP Indigo 5000 press, as part of the company’s continuing investment and development plans. 

The purchase of the HP Indigo 5000 machine will replace the company’s previous 3050 press, and adds to Elephant’s capacity capabilities. The HP Indigo 5000 delivers unmatched digital offset and photo quality, with exceptional versatility and high productivity, as well as the ability to print on synthetics. The press is capable of printing well over two million colour or five million mono pages per month, and can print colour jobs at a speed of pages per minute (ppm), and mono at 272ppm, using HP Indigo’s liquid ElectroInk technology.

The refurbished press is 4 colours with the addition of white ink, and the press will also operate from the energy generated from the company’s recently installed solar panels.

The installation of the HP Indigo 5000 will provide Elephant with a number of benefits, including higher resolution for smaller text and also faster changeovers for jobs and consumables.

The Indigo 5000 press was installed over three days with the previous 3050 being decommissioned and removed over the course of a weekend.

Commenting on the installation of the HP Indigo 5000, Managing Director of Elephant Print and Display, Jason Gadd, stated, “There are huge productivity benefits for us with this press, and job change over times are now incredibly fast. Although we did look at alternative machines nothing came close to the quality of Indigo, both in terms of output and also engineering excellence.” 

Jason added, “We were really pleased with performance of our previous machine and the support from HP has always been superb, so in the end this decision was easy.”

As part of the company’s planned expansion and development, Elephant are looking to expand their floor space over the next year, and are also looking at installing humidity controls in the pressroom. The company seeks to reduce waste wherever possible and is also looking to introduce a carbon offset initiative in the near future.

In March this year Elephant also installed 600 Solar PV panels, enabling them to run their presses and other machinery from the electricity generated. 

Elephant have 2 digital presses and 2 large format machines along with associated finishing equipment. The company operates out of 2 units and is looking to expand further this year. Recent investment has included upgrades to its finishing line with a Matrix 370P Laminator installed at the end of last year. 

Elephant are committed to low waste and renewable energy, with all waste and consumable containers being taken for recycling.  

Established in 2002, Elephant produces work for a wide range of mainly B2B customers and has full in-house finishing facilities at its premises near Lewes, East Sussex. The company operates an Indigo Digital Press and a range of finishing for both large and small format print work.
