Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaIt was a three-peat for Toronto, Canada’s Ryerson University who took home the coveted Helmut Kipphan Cup at the Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA) Annual Technical Conference held March 20-23 in Memphis, Tennessee. Eight TAGA student chapters entered this year’s competition, including: Appalachian State University, Ball State University, California Polytechnic State University, Clemson University, Grenoble Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, Ryerson University, and Western Michigan University.

In order to compete, each student chapter submits a high-quality student journal for showcasing their technical papers. The TAGA Board of Directors serves as the panel of judges for the competition and several other awards are given along with the grand prize, the Kipphan Cup.

“The level of the design, content, and production of these publications is truly impressive.” said David Niles, TAGA president and senior print and converting scientist, SAPPI North America. “They testify to the quality of the graphic communications programs at the universities from both a creative and technical aspect.”

Other winners included: Clemson University, recognized for Design and Production Quality, and Rochester Institute of Technology, for achievement in Technical Writing and Electronic Publication. Individual awards on research merit were given to undergraduate student, Diondra Filicetti of Ryerson University, and graduate student, Michael Joyce of Western Michigan University.

Managed by Printing Industries of America, TAGA is the only global professional technical association for the graphic arts industries. The TAGA Conference is designed for technology officers, researchers, engineers, university educators, students, and other individuals who want to further their knowledge of the research and development efforts underway in the graphic communications industry.
