PGSF Directory of Schools Updated Offering Students More Information

Pittsburgh, Pa., May 16, 2002— The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) is pleased to offer a greatly expanded version of its "school directory" to assist students pursue careers in graphic communications and, ultimately, to help increase the number of skilled employees for printers. This latest version of the PGSF Directory of Schools offers more than twice as many listings as the last updated version produced for the 1996–1997 school year. Students may now compare programs at 347 universities, community and vocational-technical colleges, and high schools in 42 states. "Just a short time ago, printers were reporting that the leading obstacle facing the industry was finding qualified employees. When the economy rebounds, we will no doubt face the same problem," says Lawrence C. Warter, PGSF chairman and director of new business development for Fuji Photo Film USA, Inc. in Hanover Park, Illinois. "PGSF is proactively addressing this issue through this greatly enhanced resource." This latest edition of the PGSF Directory of Schools is really two directories in one. The first section of the directory, compiled by PGSF, provides a comprehensive listing of 215 technical schools, colleges, and universities offering courses in graphic communications. Each school listing includes degrees awarded, processes covered in curriculum, enrollment (undergraduate and graduate), size of faculty, and contact information. The second directory lists 132 secondary and post-secondary schools that have earned PrintEd accreditation, which indicates that the program has the capabilities to train entry-level workers for a career in graphic communications. Each school listing includes the date the program was accredited, the expiration date for accreditation, and contact information. "We encourage printers who have felt the hiring crisis in the past to donate this $10 resource to their local high school career center," says Warter. "Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it. This guide to finding the right educational institution will greatly help today’s student gain the necessary knowledge for tomorrow."
