Kodak Approval Recipe Color Software Earns Pantone Calibrated License

Press release from the issuing company

Pantone, Inc., one of the world's most respected resources for colour accuracy, approved Kodak Approval XP/XP4 systems with Recipe Color software as PANTONE Calibrated. The designation makes it possible for Kodak Polychrome Graphics' Approval XP/XP4 system customers to reliably reproduce over one thousand industry-standard PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEMÆ Colors. Recipe Color software is a breakthrough in the graphic arts industry, allowing spot colours to be produced using process donors. It is the only digital proofing technology to receive a 2000 GATF InterTech Award. The resulting spot colours are not tint builds; the ink colour is created within the system. This technology demonstrates the dot structure of the printed piece on the proof, allowing customers to check colour breaks prior to plating. In addition to the Harlequin RIP that is sold for the Approval XP/XP4 system, Recipe Color software can be used with the following RIPs: Brisque, Delta, Barco, and any other RIP that will interface through the Kodak Approval Interface Toolkit, such as Prinergy. For the convenience of Kodak Approval XP/XP4 system users, Kodak Polychrome Graphics supplies specially calibrated PANTONE Color tables which can help to provide the optimal colour settings for use with Recipe Color software. These tables can be downloaded from the Kodak Polychrome Graphics Web site at www.kpgraphics.com. The system eliminates stocking a library of colour donors, as the PANTONE spot colours are built within the Approval XP/XP4 system with Recipe Color software. An additional benefit is the "media saving feature." Via this setting, the user can create spot colours without using additional donors Ê and the additional time is only two minutes per colour component in the PANTONE Color table. "Approval XP/XP4 system users can market the benefits of this new feature, and we're confident that their customers will enjoy the assurance that the proof is an accurate representation of the PANTONE Colors on the final printed piece," said Emma Walker, European Proofing marketing manager, Kodak Polychrome Graphics. "PANTONE Calibration is another example of how Kodak Polychrome Graphics is continually upgrading and improving the Approval system." "The innovative approach that Kodak Polychrome Graphics is marketing with the Kodak Approval system is very exciting and provides an important component for insuring colour integrity when proofing PANTONE Colors," said Richard Herbert, Executive Vice President at Pantone. "As a result of our partnership with Kodak and Kodak Polychrome Graphics, our respective customers can now be assured of high levels of PANTONE Color fidelity and consistency within their workflow."
