University of Miami Health System Pediatric Mobile Clinic Provides Critical Care with Support from Canon Solutions America

Press release from the issuing company

MELVILLE, N.Y. – Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., announced its continued sponsorship of the University of Miami Health System (UHealth) Pediatric Mobile Clinic. The Mobile Clinic provides an essential community service to the people of Miami-Dade County in Florida.

Established in 1992 in the wake of Hurricane Andrew, the UHealth Pediatric Mobile Clinic has provided medical care to uninsured children, including well-visits, sports physicals, immunizations, management of chronic conditions, urgent care, mental health, and social work. The Mobile Clinic delivers these important services to children who might otherwise have no option for healthcare other than the emergency room, which is not well-equipped for the preventive healthcare needs of pediatric patients.

Another equally important function of the UHealth Pediatric Mobile Clinic is to provide an educational platform for future healthcare providers. The Mobile Clinic is staffed with professionals including pediatric residents, medical students, and masters of public health students, all who are learning crucial skills that will provide additional support for the community in the years to come. The training they receive through this program enables them to meet the challenges of serving disadvantaged children, and encourages more healthcare providers to choose careers that aid the underserved.

“I am so passionate about this program. The support of organizations like Canon Solutions America is critical to continue to keep this program alive. We do not receive any funding from the federal government, the state government, or from municipalities. It all comes from corporate and philanthropic donations,” said Lisa Gwynn, DO, UHealth pediatrician and Director of the Pediatric Mobile Clinic.

“We are very proud to support UHealth and this health program that is so essential to the people of Miami-Dade County,” stated Valerie Belli, vice president, Enterprise Managed Services Division of Canon Solutions America. “We are always looking for how we can best support worthy causes like this one, and I am pleased that our longstanding relationship with the University of Miami has allowed us this opportunity.”

The pediatric healthcare services provided by the Mobile Clinic mean not only healthier children now, but promotes healthy living which results in significant ongoing benefits throughout the patients’ lives.  Dr. Gwynn, who is also assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, summarized the vital importance of the UHealth Pediatric Mobile Clinic to the community: “We are the medical home for these kids; otherwise, they would have nowhere else to go.”
