Hitachi Shows First Internet Copiers at COMDEX

Press release from the issuing company

Hitachi Koki Imaging Solutions demonstrated the 55- and 62-page copier versions of the "World's First Internet CopierÅ" at Comdex Booth L5746. Both incorporate Hitachi's proprietary Internet Document Controller iDoc 400 for access to Web-enabled worldwide digital printing, configuration and documentworkflow management. The iDoc 400, a built-in print controller integrated into Hitachi copiers and printers, offers major breakthroughs in device control and monitoring with Web-based printer/copier management software. Authorized users get unprecedented control of copying, printing and finishing functions from anywhere in the world, plus remote access to product information, device configuration, service and support, all from a standard Web browser. "We are very confident that these new Internet-enabled products, combined with the Internet's power, will change the business of document production," said Michael T. Stramaglio, president and COO of Hitachi Koki Imaging Systems, Inc. The high-performance, RISC-based iDoc 400 features 10/100 Base-T Ethernet with TCP/IP, a selection of printer emulations for virtually any software or hardware environment. It supports four software modules providing exclusive Internet-enabled functions: i-manage offers 24/7 point-and-click access to extensive information including user manuals, multimedia product demonstrations, real-time printer status, and usage statistics. i-service lets technicians configure and repair i-printers and i-copiers without leaving their desks, minimizing costly on-site service calls. It even warns the technician via e-mail or fax when it is about to break down. i-billing transforms the way dealers and customers do business, with real-time billing information and customer-printed invoices. i-print lets users print to multiple printers at once from anywhere in the world using the IPP protocol. Engines can be different models and do not need to be near a dedicated server. A remarkable range of printing services is offered, from network printing to a single network device, to broadcast printing to multiple devices at multiple locations around the world. Hitachi showed two products, the i-copier 62 and i-copier 55, at COMDEX/Fall 2000. Both are feature-rich digital copier/printers that offer high-quality imaging (600 x 600 dpi printing up to 11" x 17") and advanced finishing capabilities. The i-copiers produce professional looking documents with duplex printing, saddle-stitching, punching, folding and multi-position stapling. Hitachi's dynamic drivers give the user complete control for end-to-end document production, including simplified post-document page insertion, front and back covers, and tab stock printing. Also, any document printing/finishing configuration can be saved as a profile for easy reuse.
