Canon Solutions America Increases Access to Large Format Color

Press release from the issuing company

Large Format Solutions repositions its Océ ColorWave 500 System and expands application range

MELVILLE, N.Y. – Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., recently took actions to make large format color printing accessible to a much broader segment market by both repositioning its award-winning Océ ColorWave 500® system and expanding its supported media and application range. This enables firms who in the past considered printing large format color documents to be too expensive or too specialized, access to a highly versatile print device that is within their budget from both an acquisition and operational cost perspective.

As the trend of decentralized printing has continued to expand, so too has the demand for printing more technical documents in color. In the past, adoption of color in the technical document workflow had been restrained due to a void in the market space for affordable yet highly productive, robust and versatile systems. Canon has addressed the needs of this untapped market by repositioning its Océ ColorWave 500 system and expanding the range of supported media to provide instant-dry prints ready for immediate use. The flexible media choices go beyond simple bond and film to water-fast Tyvek, polypropylene, satin fabric, wet strength paper and more, without sacrificing quality or productivity. This expanded media range translates to greater customer application capability, increasing the versatility and utilization of the system.

The Océ ColorWave 500 system is ideal for both workgroups looking for a cost-effective walk-up system as well as for central operations needing high productivity for generating CAD, GIS and color graphics applications. Using eco-friendly Océ CrystalPoint technology in an easy to deploy form factor, it is an extremely versatile walk-up system. Now, twelve months removed from its launch, Canon Solutions America’s Large Format Solutions division is reimagining the potential of the product by tapping into new market opportunities.

"The repositioning of the Océ ColorWave 500 multi-function system has opened up access for this printer to a whole new market segment, which in the past would not have considered printing large format documents in color,” said John Wirtz, president, Document Solutions, Inc. “This move simultaneously creates valuable opportunities for Document Solutions as a Canon Solutions America Platinum Reseller.”

The timing of the repositioning comes at a pivotal point in various industries, perhaps none more than the construction market and the emergence of research on the value of color in construction documents. Research has quantified the benefits of using color documents to reduce construction costs where each incremental dollar invested in color printing can yield $4 in savings for a given project. Key areas where color has the greatest impact includes reduction of estimation contingency costs, change orders and requests for information (RFI’s).  To capitalize on this opportunity, Canon Solutions America has worked with its resellers and customers to leverage the power of color and showcase the Océ ColorWave 500’s ability to enhance the document workflows of not only Architects, Contractors and Sub-contractors, but also anyone with large format color needs.

“Now, with an extremely price competitive mid-volume device that has both monochrome and color print, scan and copy capabilities, our customers will be able to leverage the productivity and cost savings associated with printing large format color documents,” added Wirtz. “In addition the Océ ColorWave 500 system has a very wide range of media options, so multiple departments such as the design and marketing teams can fully utilize the device. Plus, compared to other models, this system is ideal for decentralized office environments because of its compact foot print, no ozone emissions, and low noise and heat emissions.
