Canon Solutions America Planted a Million Trees with Trees for the Future to Inspire a Greener Future

Press release from the issuing company

Green initiative designed to help customers mitigate carbon emissions

MELVILLE, N.Y. – Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., today announced its continued support of the environment through an existing partnership with Trees for the Future, a Maryland-based non-profit organization planting millions of trees in ways that help end hunger and poverty for impoverished people throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. The partnership was formed by Canon Solutions America’s Production Print Solutions division, which donated 214,350 trees in 2015. Since the launch of its Eco Start Program, Canon Solutions America has planted over a million trees on behalf of its customers.

Canon Solutions America and its parent company’s environmental and sustainability initiatives cover all aspects of their businesses. Beginning in the product development stage, Canon considers the environment throughout the remainder of the product’s lifecycle, utilizing energy-efficient manufacturing processes and eliminating hazardous substances from its products and services wherever possible. The Eco Start Program is an extension of this commitment and was designed as a first step to helping customers achieve carbon-neutral production. Canon Solutions America continues to look for ways to remain environmentally conscious and proactive through methods that include production printing toner and inkjet ink tests.

“For years now, there has been uniquely successful environmental campaigns that will shape the future of this planet,” said Francis A. McMahon, senior vice president, Marketing, Canon Solutions America. “We understood that it was time for us to look at where we could help. By partnering with us, customers can be sure that focus on the environment is not lost. When an Océ production system is purchased, we will subsequently plant trees to offset its CO2 emissions from energy consumption during its first year in operation.”

To plant the trees, Canon Solutions America partnered with Trees for the Future, a Charity Navigator four-star organization. Trees for the Future has helped thousands of communities across the world improve their livelihoods and environment by planting over 127 million trees, removing approximately two million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year.

“Canon Solutions America has planted over a million trees that are changing the lives of impoverished communities across Africa,” says John Leary, Executive Director of Trees for the Future. “With Canon Solutions America’s support, we have planted Forest Gardens that cover an area greater than 500 football fields. These lands now provide food and income for hundreds of families who previously suffered from chronic hunger."

“It’s a great honor to work with Trees for the Future and help keep initiatives like these in the public’s eye,” said Mal Baboyian, executive vice president, Large Format Solutions/Production Print Solutions, Canon Solutions America. “Canon has a great history of working with organizations to better the environment. We’re proud to be a part of that history.”
