Agfa Launches E-Generation Scanner

Press release from the issuing company

Mortsel, Belgium - - Agfa launched its newest "e-generation" scanner, the SnapScan e25. With this model, Agfa brings the consumer ultimate ease of use with 42 bits of colour power at 600 x 1200 pixels per inch (ppi). Three programmable buttons let users scan at the precise resolution for a specific destination-printer, email, or the screen for editing or uploading to AGFAnet-all at the push of a button. The AGFAnet Print Service transmits selected images via the Web to a photo lab for professional photo processing. While resolution tells you how many pixels of data a scanner can record for an image, bit depth determines the number of values or colour variations it can record per pixel for a single colour. That means that 42 bits of colour depth delivers higher colour fidelity-the ability to record greater colour nuance. While some scanners interpolate colour depth, Agfa's SnapScan delivers true 42-bit colour. The SnapScan e25 is designed to appeal to the home user for both personal and business applications. It delivers exceptional scanning power at the level of ease and convenience consumers prefer. The SnapScan's unique programmable push-button operation simplifies and speeds the scanning process, while providing user-defined functionality. The scanner also provides USB connectivity for easy plug-and-play operation and fast data transfer. The SnapScan e25 lets users push a button to scan and send the image directly to the printer. Another button scans and sends the image directly to the selected email client. The third button launches Agfa's ScanWise software for manual control of scan settings. At the click of the AGFAnet icon users can choose to transmit their images directly to a photo lab and order professional photographic prints. Agfa also took aesthetics into consideration when designing the smooth rounded body with its three interchangeable colour handles (berry blue, tangerine, graphite). Agfa adds Iris ReadIris OCR (optical character recognition) and Corel Print Office 2000 to the SnapScan e25 scanning bundle. Corel Print Office makes it easy to create impressive documents and Web pages. It includes photo-editing tools, style templates, and support for digital cameras and scanners. Readiris, which recognises 55 languages, lets users easily convert hard-copy documents-originals, faxes and photocopies-into editable text.
