Adobe Contributes $5.9 Million In Software To Educate Youth

Press release from the issuing company

San Jose, Calif., Adobe Systems Incorporated, the leader in digital publishing solutions for Web, print and dynamic media, today announced a commitment to contribute $5.9 million worth of software to the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network. This commitment will be Adobe's largest single contribution ever made as part of its ongoing, innovative community relations program. Today's announcement of the Intel Computer Clubhouse at The East Side San Jose Boys & Girls Club is the first of a planned global network of 100 "invention workshops" that will impact the lives of thousands of young people in underprivileged communities throughout the world. The Intel Computer Clubhouse Network provides a creative and safe after-school learning environment that gives young people access to technology and helps them develop technology skills that open up options and opportunities, encourage self-confidence, and foster creativity. Over the next four years, Adobe will provide 20 current and 100 future Clubhouses with multiple site licenses for Adobe products including: AdobeÆ AcrobatÆ, Adobe AfterEffectsÆ, Adobe IllustratorÆ, Adobe InDesignÅ, Adobe PageMakerÆ Plus, Adobe PremiereÆ, Adobe GoLiveÅ, Adobe LiveMotionÅ, and Adobe PhotoshopÆ software. "Adobe's promise is 'inspiration becomes reality,' so it is a priority for us to partner with organizations that provide environments that nurture creativity and teach youth valuable skills," said John E. Warnock, Adobe chairman and CEO. "By providing software to Intel's Computer Clubhouse Network, thousands of young people who may not have the means or resources, will have access to the tools that will enable them to actively participate in the future of technology." Adobe software will be used in the Clubhouses by youth ages 8 to 18, to express themselves through self-directed projects facilitated by adult mentors. The students will have the opportunity to create computer-generated art, music and videos; develop scientific simulations; design their own animations; build kinetic sculptures and robots; create their own Web pages; and program their own computer games. Adobe builds partnerships with a variety of non-profit community organizations in order to positively impact and strengthen the communities where Adobe employees work and live. In the U.S., these issues include K-12 education and issues directly related to poverty, such as homelessness, hunger, and infrastructure, including transportation and housing. Donations to Adobe's community partners are intended to provide long-term support for successful service programs. Adobe contributions are made in the form of annual cash grants, donations of software products, and other in-kind support.
