Macromedia Announces Next-Generation Dreamweaver Platform Dreamweaver Conference, Monterey, California -Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: MACR) today introduced the next-generation of the Macromedia Dreamweaver Platform featuring all-new versions of Macromedia Dreamweaver 4, Dreamweaver UltraDev 4, and Fireworks 4. This major upgrade to the professional standard for Web development unifies the design, production, and development of Web sites. Web developers, application builders, and Web designers now have an integrated and extensible content authoring platform that accelerates individual and team productivity in developing Web content and dynamic, data-driven applications. Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 and Fireworks 4 unify code authoring, layout, and graphics creation. Combined together in the Dreamweaver 4 Fireworks 4 Studio (see related release), they provide a powerful solution for Web developers and designers in production environments. Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev 4 enables rapid Web application development using industry-standard application servers. The UltraDev 4 Fireworks 4 Studio provides application builders powerful graphics capabilities (see related release). The three new applications enable efficient authoring at every step of the development process. All products now feature the Macromedia User Interface, reducing learning time and accelerating individual productivity. Roundtrip Graphic Editing enables a smooth interchange of graphics and code within the applications and between team members, eliminating wasted effort. Team workflow is further enhanced by XML-based design notes, new asset management, new support for content management standards such as WebDAV, and tight integration with version control solutions such as Microsoft Visual Sourcesafe. To further help ease development for both emerging and experienced Web developers, both Dreamweaver 4 and Dreamweaver UltraDev 4 include integrated online code reference from industry-leader O'Reilly and Associates, letting novices learn the basics while giving professionals an easy way to look up code examples and standards (see related release). Currently, there have been over one million downloads of the 270+ extensions available on the Macromedia Exchange for Dreamweaver (www.macromedia.com/exchange), an online resource for the one million strong Dreamweaver community to leverage each other's efforts. These extensions enhance the platform for a variety of tasks, ranging from workflow optimizations to support for new playback standards such as Web-enabled cell phones (via the Nokia WML studio). With version 4, the Dreamweaver platform now enables vertical-market applications, such as creating Web-based learning via free add-ons such as the CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver extension. PRICING AND AVAILABILITY The Dreamweaver 4 Fireworks 4 Studio is priced at $449. Dreamweaver 4 stand-alone is priced at $299 and Fireworks 4 stand-alone is priced at $299. Both Dreamweaver and Fireworks customers can upgrade to the Dreamweaver 4 Fireworks 4 Studio for $199. The UltraDev 4 Fireworks 4 Studio is priced at $699. Dreamweaver UltraDev 4 stand-alone is priced at $599. Both the studio and stand-alone versions of the products are expected to ship in December 2000.
