Simon Coulson Promoted to Group Vice President at Avery Dennison

PASADENA, Calif.--June 10, 2004-- Avery Dennison Corporation today announced that Simon D. Coulson, vice president, Retail Information Services, has been promoted to the newly created position of group vice president, Retail Information Services at Avery Dennison, effective June 7, 2004. Accompanying this promotion, Coulson becomes a corporate officer of Avery Dennison. Coulson, 40, is based in Framingham, Mass. "Simon's strong leadership and his ability to shape and execute a strategic vision for our retail information services business have been instrumental in the excellent growth achieved by this vital operation," said Philip M. Neal, chairman and chief executive officer of Avery Dennison. "He has built an outstanding portfolio of products and services that have positioned Avery Dennison as a leader in providing brand identification solutions and supply chain and inventory management systems for the retail and apparel industries. We look forward to his continued contributions to this expanding business." As group vice president, Retail Information Services, Coulson is responsible for the Company's businesses that provide a full range of information and brand management services, automated tag and labeling systems and printer systems. Coulson reports to Dean A. Scarborough, president and chief operating officer. Coulson joined Avery Dennison in 1985, as a customer service representative and production planner in the Company's office labels and business systems operation in the United Kingdom. In the following years, he served in a series of increasingly responsible positions in both Europe and the United States, becoming vice president and general manager of the Company's worldwide variable information printing (VIP) and converting operations in 1997. He was promoted to vice president of VIP Converted Products, Ticketing and Fastener in 2000, and vice president, Retail Information Services in 2001. Coulson's successful leadership of the business was recognized in 1999 when he earned the Company's General Manager of the Year Award. Coulson earned a BSc (Hons) degree in management sciences from the Institute of Science and Technology at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom in 1985.
