Screen Expands Thermal Ctp Lineup With Newspaper Prepress Solution

Press release from the issuing company

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — Screen USA, the leader in thermal CTP platesetters, is making the superior versatility and productivity of PlateRite imaging technology available to the newspaper industry. The PlateRite News newspaper CTP solution will have its global premiere at NEXPO 2004, set for June 19-22 in Washington, D.C. NEXPO is the world's largest annual newspaper exhibition and conference. "Up until now, Screen technology has benefited commercial printers, packaging printers, trade shops, in-plants and service bureaus," observed A.J. Kakiuchi, president of Screen (USA). "At NEXPO, newspaper executives and production managers will see how the PlateRite News can expand their competitive edge in the world of newspaper printing." The PlateRite News combines efficiency, reliability and superior image quality for improved performance on press. The flexibility of the PlateRite News includes the ability to handle a maximum plate size of 45.6 x 36.6 inches and a minimum plate size of 13.6 x 14.2 inches. The PlateRite News outputs up to 35 plates per hour* at 1,200 dpi when imaging 35.0 x 23.6-inch plates. This brand new design builds on the success of Grating Light Valve(tm) (GLV) imaging technology, which Screen first incorporated into the PlateRite series in 2002. Screen has developed a 512-channel imaging head utilizing GLV. This high-intensity beam array allows rapid and exact imaging at low drum rotation speed. Four standard resolution settings — 1,000 dpi, 1,016 dpi, 1,200 dpi and 1,270 dpi — provide the right resolution to suit the job at hand. The PlateRite News is a complete CTP solution thanks to its seamless integration with Screen's acclaimed workflow technology, as well as its third-party connectivity. "The PlateRite News is a solid first step in introducing a Screen thermal CTP device to the newspaper market," said Kakiuchi. "As we have in other market segments, we will continually improve and expand our product portfolio to meet the needs of the market. This is only the start. The Screen story of contributing reliable thermal CTP to newspaper printers definitely 'has legs.' " The PlateRite News will be available for order at NEXPO 2004. The fully automated device with a single-cassette autoloader will highlight Screen's participation at the exhibition.
