Large format printing with Latex inks at SGI Dubai 2016

Press release from the issuing company

Water-based inks have been around for a long time. Since some years, several manufacturers offer Latex ink that enables a host of new applications.

Dubai - Aqueous or water-based inks in large format printing are mainly reduced to indoor applications. However, since some years manufacturers are offering Latex inks that enable many more applications and adhere to a multitude of substrates.

Latex inks can not only be used on paper substrates, but all kinds of substrates. The polymer formulaes that manufacturers of latex inks employ allow for crosslinking of polymers during the drying phase, thus enabling smooth and even surfaces. Compared to other inks, latex inks are also very durable. Because latex inks are comprised of pigments rather than dyes, their fade resistance when exposed to the sun's UV rays is much greater.

The speed of Latex printers is as high as 180 sqm/h and the inks are environmentally friendly. Some manufacturers have their inks certified according to UL Ecologo and UL Greenguard Gold standards. As latex inks are water-based, their environmental impact is reduced and only low VOC levels are emitted thus eliminating the need for expensive ventilation systems.

"Several of the exhibitors at SGI Dubai 2016 will present printers and solutions employing Latex inks. Existing and new applications, such as car and vehicle wraps, outdoor advertising as well as indoor advertising can thus be realised environmentally friendly. As organiser of SGI Dubai 2016 we are very happy to be able to showcase such a multitude of applications as well as solutions for the signage market to visitors from MENA and beyond. The UAE is one of many states that foster environmentally friendly solutions and actively supports their introductions", states Mr. Sharif Rahman, CEO, IEC. "While traditional sign making technologies are declining, digital technologies are taking over and offer a multitude of applications that enable print shop owners to increase their business and engage in new applications that hitherto could not be accommodated. SGI Dubai 2016 is the place for everyone in the signage industry and beyond to inform themselves about those new technologies and how they can benefit their businesses."

SGI Dubai 2016 will take place from January 10 – 12, 2016 at the World Trade Center in Dubai (UAE).
