Longtime service customer Web Graphics buys first Colter & Peterson paper cutter

Press release from the issuing company

Paterson, NJ – For 15 years, Randi Viele at Web Graphics in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains of upstate Queensbury, New York, has counted on Colter & Peterson to service and maintain his three paper cutters. A few months ago when age problems made his 42” Challenge cutter replaceable, he knew exactly where to turn. Installed during Thanksgiving week, he flipped the switch Nov. 30 on his C&P reconditioned 45” Saber® paper cutter with Microcut® and didn’t miss a beat.

“It was a smooth transition and we put the Saber in operation right after we returned from the holiday,” said Viele, a 30-year employee and Facility Maintenance Supervisor at Web Graphics. “Our relationship with Colter & Peterson has been very good. We’ve had the same technician take care of our paper cutters for the last 15 years. He lives about an hour from our facility and knows the machines inside and out.”

Web Graphics is a division of Amsterdam Printing & Litho, which is part of the Taylor Corporation family of companies. They do work for the dealer network, not the end-user, and do a fair amount of jobs for Amsterdam, a multiple division promotional products firm. Amsterdam offers a wide range of products for customer and employee retention programs, tradeshow giveaways and brand awareness, and Web Graphics prints their customers’ HR forms and pocket calendars. The two businesses are less than one hour apart and Amsterdam has a sales office.

When they opened for business in 1964, Web Graphics began by printing custom snap sets and continuous forms, and soon produced high quality, short run custom products. Their portfolio today includes a slew of products that attract a mostly east coast based roster of clients, in addition to some Canadian customers in Ontario. All three paper cutters are put to use on checks and business forms, and to cut 40’ rolls of sheet paper, mostly for business cards.

“We are pretty busy and the cutters are getting a workout. We use them for the majority of two shifts, five days a week,” remarked Viele. “Our print orders run from the hundreds up to one million, so the cutters are used quite often. We recently completed a run for 360,000 checks that we handled from start-to-finish in 48 hours.”

The Saber paper cutter saves a huge amount of set-up time and has a workhorse reputation. Microcut’s automated back gauge system leads the way, improving overall efficiency by memorizing and recalling prior cut sequences. Once the blade is positioned, it delivers a highly accurate cut within 1/64th of an inch. Viele said speed is important but reliability was the biggest factor for him.

“We decided to replace the Challenge cutter and I looked at used equipment that some brokers had to offer. I decided to go with C&P for several reasons. Bruce Peterson sent me specs on both new and reconditioned cutters, then gave me a complete break down on what would be done on the reconditioned Saber machine. Once I placed the order, it was delivered to us in less than 60 days.”

Viele indicated having Microcut included on the Saber paper cutter is a huge advantage.

“We have it on the other cutters and I liked keeping its familiarity. It also required less of a learning curve for my operators, and they find the 10” touch screen controls easier to do their job.”
