Registration Open for TAPPI Introduction to Pulp and Paper Technology Course

ATLANTA, GA – Registration is open for the 2016 Introduction to Pulp and Paper Technology Course, scheduled for Jan. 11-14, at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront in St. Petersburg, FL.  
“This is the most comprehensive, four-day introductory- level pulp and paper course in the industry,” said Course Chair and Professor Emeritus of Paper Science & Engineering at North Carolina State University, Dr. Michael Kocurek. “It is ideal for anyone new to the industry or those who want a broad overview, as well as professionals who are changing positions and need information about unfamiliar equipment, processes and terminology.”

Participants will gain a broad perspective by exploring the entire pulping and papermaking processes, increase their ability to contribute to improving mill operations, get personalized answers to specific questions and operating problems, and learn how to interact more knowledgeably with process engineers and operators.

This course is ideal for technical mill professionals, supervisors, suppliers, consultants, as well as non-technical personnel.

About the Instructor:

Dr. Michael Kocurek is one of the world's most recognized educators in the pulp and paper industry.  As Professor Emeritus of Paper Science & Engineering at North Carolina State University, Dr. Kocurek's focus is on Pulp & Paper Technology, Paper Properties, and Workforce and Professional Development.

Since 1970, Dr. Kocurek has taught undergraduates, graduates and onsite courses to more than 3,000 industry professionals and operators among 50 paper industry corporations and government agencies.

He has served as the sole instructor for the Introduction to Pulp and Paper Technology course since 1974.

Mike is the editor of 11 books and more than 60 video modules on pulp & paper technology.

He has served as Department Head at NC State, Executive Director of the Herty Foundation, an agency of the state of Georgia, and as Chairman and founder of the Department of Paper Science at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Dr. Kocurek is a TAPPI Fellow and Distinguished Service Recipient. In 2005, he was inducted into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on those who have made preeminent contributions to the global pulp & paper industrydegrees in Paper Science & Engineering from the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry, and Syracuse University.

He has served as Paper Science Department Head at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, an academic program he founded; and NC State University.  His honors include TAPPI Fellow, TAPPI Distinguished Service Award, and induction into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame - an honor bestowed to recognize people who have made preeminent contributions to the global paper industry.
