Critical Impressions Installs New Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga. – May 26, 2004 – Heidelberg announced today that Critical Impressions, a family owned business located in Brentwood, Tenn., recently installed a five-color Speedmaster SM 52 that has improved the overall quality and output of its sheetfed capabilities and is helping to meet the growing demands of the area. With the new state-of-the-art Speedmaster SM 52, the Cowan family, owners of Critical Impressions since 2002, has successfully converted a small quick copy business into a thriving commercial print shop. With an experienced team and a host of other new Heidelberg prepress and sheetfed systems, the Cowan’s investments in the latest technologies is paying off. “I can’t say enough about the quality and work we have been able to create since the installation of our SM 52,” said Jared Cowan, sales and print shop manager for Critical Impressions. “We are now able to compete and bid for jobs that weren’t possible on our older equipment. It just shows how smaller family run shops can successfully compete against larger run corporate competitors if it comes down to the quality and uniqueness of a finished product.” Critical Impressions chose the Speedmaster SM 52 because of its reputation in the market place and the system’s advanced features that could improve existing client work and help market new products. Since the installation on March 1, the shop has increased and improved the high-end color production on all of its core business applications including multi-color product brochures, business cards, postcards, annual reports, marketing materials, direct mail pieces and sales collateral. Some of the shop’s largest customers have already requested additional jobs and increased existing orders because of the SM 52’s quick turn-around times and output capabilities. The Speedmaster SM 52 is designed to assist printers by meeting the growing, ever-changing needs of the market and improving the speed, efficiency and productivity each run. The SM 52 produces the quickest makeready and running speed in its class. The one-man press can produce 10,000 pieces of a 14x20” high quality color job and 15,000 pieces on smaller formats in less than an hour, including makeready. In the case of Critical Impressions, the company’s return on investment has been significant. The new press, for example, has enabled the company to reduce makeready by as much as 70 percent and increase production by 45 percent. Critical Impressions also recently improved its prepress department with the installation of Heidelberg’s new SuperColor and SuperTrap systems to assist with the design and color management aspect of production. “We wanted a system that would compliment our experience in prepress and design to really take our work to the next level,” said Cowan. “The management team believed that our return on investment would be greatest if we installed a Heidelberg more than any other competitive system we looked at. With the SM 52 in our shop, we are excited and poised for continued growth and success in the coming years.” Critical Impressions is located in Brentwood, Tenn., a suburb outside Nashville, and has been doing business for more than 12 years. In 1997, the shop began running only Heidelberg systems and since then the business has grown its client base to include some of the region’s largest healthcare and real estate companies, corporate customers, retail centers and a leading music production companies.
