Boston Globe chooses Pressline’s FlexPress Technology for new Taunton Printing facility

Press release from the issuing company

St. Louis, MO – Pressline Service, Inc. is pleased to announce the sale of a Pressline FlexPress to the Boston Globe for their new printing facility in Taunton, MA.  The new FlexPress is equipped with a total of 22 zones and four folders and will allow the Globe to print its current newspaper products as well as additional commercial and newspaper products.

The FlexPress Technology is a new, innovative way of approaching newspaper production. Due to its minimal operational footprint FlexPress allows for single-floor production and requires less floor space then a conventional newspaper press. Therefore it can be configured for a warehouse environment which allows for reduction in real estate costs and savings in building, maintenance and utility expenses.

“Pressline’s new press is exactly what we needed for our new printing facility”, states Boston Globe’s Vice President of Operations  Rich Masotta. “We wanted a press that can be installed in an unconventional printing facility without limiting our printing requirements and future expansion plans, and meets our needs for budget-conscious operation and maintenance. Having three pages across and right angling into a double width folder gives us near double width performance with all the quality and flexibility of a single width press.”

The FlexPress will anchor the Globe’s new 330,000 sq ft Taunton printing facility which is a single-level warehouse and is set up to produce newspapers and commercial work in a fast and efficient way without jeopardizing quality.

Features such as flexible color capabilities, color on more pages, and easy to control where those pages land make the FlexPress a winner for any printing operation. It can operate as a single press or as two presses and incorporate different types of formats including multiple web widths, Stitch Tab, and 3Volution® (3V®) compact formats.

The FlexPress at Boston Globe will feature EAE Press Controls, Rexroth shaftless technology, Perretta motorized fountains, Technotrans dampener, WPC registration controls and NELA Lockups.
