Sun Chemical Brings to Market New Compliant Solutions for Food Packaging at Labelexpo 2015

Press release from the issuing company

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – Sun Chemical is using Labelexpo 2015 to demonstrate its continued investment in research and development by presenting its next generation of compliant low migration inks for the label and narrow web market.

Visitors to the Sun Chemical stand #5E45 will see new products for food and sensitive packaging applications including the latest addition to its SolarFlex® opaque white inks range and a new LED UV curing low migration offering. Sun Chemical will also present its portfolio of flexible packaging solutions including its EB and UV flexo and offset ranges.

Compliant solutions for flexible packaging and labels

The increasing demand for compliant solutions in label printing and new applications for UV and EB ink technology in flexible packaging printing requires specifically adapted products for film printing. Visitors to stand will benefit from Sun Chemical’s expertise on food packaging compliant solutions, drawing on its long history of innovation, extensive knowledge and unique understanding of end-user applications.

Following the successful launch of SolarFlex Neutron White ink at Labelexpo Europe in 2013, Sun Chemical is presenting the latest additions to its SolarFlex range, the food packaging compliant UV flexo Rayoflex Electron White.

Rayoflex Electron White is a fully compliant UV flexo ‘first-down’ opaque white ink intended for the printing of labels and flexible packaging for printers who require a low migration solution. The ink has excellent adhesion to a wide range of filmic substrates with high opacity, good printability and provides a scratch and scuff resistant gloss finish. Due to its low migration properties, Rayoflex Electron White is ideally suited for use with primary food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging and other sensitive product packaging applications. It can also be used in other paper or board applications such as tags and tickets. The Rayoflex UV flexo product portfolio contains a number of other opaque white inks and color ranges specifically designed for various high performance compliant packaging applications.

Sun Chemical will also present a new developmental range of food packaging compliant UV LED flexo inks, developed as a result of its collaborative work with leading press and LED lamp manufacturers. Visitors to Labelexpo will be the first to see SolarFlex LM Lite, a 4-colour process set, intended for primary food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging and other sensitive applications.

EB curing

Also on its stand are Sun Chemical’s latest solutions for EB curing, which has been receiving increased attention as a solution for compliant flexible package printing. With its market knowledge and expertise Sun Chemical is well positioned to respond to this demand with its WetFlex® Unicure EB flexo and SunBeam® ELM EB offset product ranges, complemented by its range of EB and UV flexo opaque white inks and coatings for surface and reverse lamination printing. Sun Chemical experts will be present on the Sun Chemical stand to discuss these opportunities and product developments.

Sun Chemical’s packaging product portfolio is completed by the SunCure FLM UV offset product range for carton and flexible packaging, as well as the SunCure ULM UV offset range for carton liquid packaging, complemented by the SunCure LM UV coatings range.

Commenting on its presentation of next generation compliant and flexible packaging technologies, Mark Walkling, Product Manager for Narrow Web Labels at Sun Chemical said, “Labelexpo Europe is always an important landmark for us to showcase our latest developments and demonstrate our continued commitment to the label, narrow web and flexible packaging sector.”

“Our research and development teams are constantly reviewing the market, and working with printers, converters and brand owners to ensure we continue to bring the very best solutions to market. This enables us to provide our customers with the widest portfolio of products, from LED UV curing inks and solutions, the latest digital inkjet inks and special effect coatings, as well as a range of flexible packaging offerings that not only deliver in terms of quality, consistency, compliance and brand integrity, but also address the printers’ and converters’ need for overall operational efficiencies. Legislation and compliance is a hot topic in the industry and we work hard on our product portfolio to develop inks and solutions in accordance with industry regulations.”
