Web Offset Association Announces Winners of Coldset Web Offset Awards

Alexandria, VA , May 17, 2004 - The Web Offset Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2004 Coldset Web Offset Print Awards Competition. Printer’s submitted entries produced from January 1, 2003 to Dec 31, 2003 into one of 13 categories. The coldest specific categories cover pieces produced using single color or multi-color products, newsprint, groundwood or commercial-grade web stock, and a variety of processes. Pieces entered into competition this year included magazines, catalogs, newspapers, newspaper inserts and promotional collateral. A panel of judges from the Rochester Institute if Technology (RIT) review each entry using four specific criteria: back-to-back registration; paper tinting; folding of the product; and overall craftsmanship. Each category bestows awards for First, Second, and Third Place as well as Honorable Mentions. First Place winners produce the very best in coldest web offset print. All winners receive industry recognition at the annual conference. This year’s first place winners include: Category A: Best one to two color piece on newsprint or groundwood stock. K.K. Stevens Publishing - Astoria, IL “Arts Alive” Category B: Best one to two color piece on any stock other than newsprint or groundwood Dallas Offset, Inc. - Dallas, TX “Plano ISD Student/Parent” Category C: Best four color photographic process on 32# basis weight and 65 brightness Alliance Press, Inc. - Knoxville, TN “Spectacular Fall Savings” Category D: Best four color photographic process on 35# to 50# basis weight & any brightness stock Ripon Community Printers - Ripon, WI “Kitchen Krafts-Fall/Holiday 2003” Category E: Best innovative product using size, color & design on any stock. Baton Rouge Press, Inc. - Baton Rouge, LA “Junior League Annual Report” Category F: Best four color non-photographic art process on newsprint or groundwood stock. Tribune Publishing - Columbia, MO “Mother & Child Reunion” Category G: Best in-house self-promotion piece on any stock. Tribune Publishing - Columbia, MO “”Rate Card #117” Category H: Best finished product using multiple printing processes, all components produced by entrant. Action Printing Company - Fond du Lac, WI “Tourist Trains” Category I: Best bound product produced using multiple printing processes. Ripon Community Printers - Ripon, WI “10 Minute Tech” Category Ia: Best bound product produced by the coldset process only. Tribune Publishing - Columbia, MO “Our Town 2003” Category J: Best one to two color published newspaper. Charles River Publishing, Inc. - Boston, MA “Newtonite” Category K: Best four color published newspaper. The Post-Standard Syracuse Herald - Syracuse, NY “The Post-Standard – November 22, 2003” Category L: Best one to two color piece on any stock cured by the UV process. Beldar Print - Mahwah, NJ “L.L. Bean” Category M: Best four color piece on any stock cured by the UV process.
