Goss takes large Universal order at Drupa 2004

Press release from the issuing company

May 14th, 2004 – Against the backdrop of its Drupa technology theater, Goss International has taken a major three-site order from the Dogan Yayin Holding for Goss Universal press equipment. The installations, totaling 40 units overall, will span two continents and three cities. Phased as two separate projects, the orders involve press additions at two sites in Turkey followed by installation of an additional new press line to Europe’s largest existing single width press at Dogan Yayin Holding’s German plant in Mörfelden, Frankfurt. According to Mr. M. A. Yalcindag, CEO of the Dogan Yayin Holding, the choice of equipment signifies ongoing satisfaction with Goss presses. “We already have a number of both single and double width Goss presses across our seven sites, and they give us exactly what we want. High quality color with maximum impact is the staple requirement of Turkish newspaper publishing, so it makes absolute sense to come back to Goss for just that. We also anticipate gaining some significant new print contracts through the improved color production capacity of the extended press line in Germany.” The equipment specification for each site comprises: Ankara, Turkey – 14 units of Goss Universal 45 with a 56 cm cut-off, configured as three four-high towers and one two-high, ultimately giving a 20 tower footprint press line with 70 units and four folders. Izmir, Turkey – Six Goss Universal 45 units with 56 cm cut-off configured as one four-high tower and one two-high addition, to make a 20-tower footprint press with 56 units and four folders. Mörfelden, Germany – An additional third press line consisting of five four-high Goss Universal 45 towers with 56 cm cut-off, plus one 1:2:2 jaw folder, added to the existing two Universal presses to make a triple press line. Dogan Printing Company (DPC) is a division of the Turkish media concern Dogan Yayin Holdings (DYH). With six sites across Turkey providing distribution of local and national dailies, DPC publishes a number of Turkey’s leading titles, led by its flagship national daily broadsheet Hürriyet. Dogan’s facility in Frankfurt also contract prints prominent international titles including the Wall Street Journal. The new order, scheduled for delivery in September 2004, is the result of increasing color and pagination requirements as DYH experiences an improving advertising climate in its Turkish titles. It continues a longstanding close relationship between Goss and Dogan through Goss’ Turkish agent Medya Makina. “This order is great news for Goss,” says Keith Malcolm, Goss Vice President of Sales. “With such a long history between our companies, we know each other very well – it’s extremely gratifying as a manufacturer to see your customers flourish and come back again for more of the same. The fact that DYH has once again chosen Goss to meet their growing requirements underlines that we must be doing things right!” Commenting on the order at Drupa, Bob Brown, CEO of Goss International says, “This has been an excellent show for Goss. Customer feedback has been very positive, particularly with respect to our focus on ‘Innovation for Business’ and our vision of the future concept press. As well as confirming continued confidence in Goss as their long-term supplier, this order from DYH also emphasizes the growing optimism in the marketplace as color advertising requirements grow – a very encouraging message for publishers worldwide today.
