NEW YORK - Angelina Killane-Sims, Vice President Operations at Highroad Press in Moonachie, New Jersey, has been named by the Franklin Luminaire Committee as recipient of the 2015 Zenger Community Service Medal. The presentation will be made at the Franklin Luminaire Awards event to be held on October 1, 2015 at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.

Nominations for the Zenger Community Service Medal are submitted through an open-industry nomination process. This year’s selection was extremely difficult with approximately a dozen very deserving individuals nominated.  The selection is made by a vote of the overall Franklin Committee after all nominations are reviewed. 

The Zenger Medal is awarded to an individual employed in the graphic communications industry who has exemplified, outside of his/her professional role, exemplary character in the form of selfless courage, charity, activism, or service. The Zenger Medal honors a graphic communications professional who has demonstrated exceptional community service, inspiring us to be more than we are, making our community a better place to live, or serving our country in ways that make us proud.

The prestigious Zenger Community Service Medal is named for John Peter Zenger, an influential printer in American history. Zenger was a New York City based printer whose arrest, imprisonment, trial, and acquittal in 1735 laid the foundation for freedom of the press in Colonial America.

Ms. Killane-Sims is being honored for her role in establishing AAngelsNJ, a breast cancer awareness organization dedicated to serving and providing resources to underserved and underinsured individuals and families. AAngelsNJ is committed to educating and navigating those in need   through issues surrounding preventive care, pre- and post-breast cancer diagnoses and all aspects of breast health. 

After being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 39, and after two years of treatment and surgery to achieve remission, Angelina Killane-Sims found a calling to serve women with breast cancer. Ms. Killane-Sims was inspired by Dee Dee Ricks, founder of MAM LLC. and Ricks Consulting, a breast cancer survivor who said, “Poverty should not be a sentence to death.” Angie started AAngels NJ in Montclair, NJ in 2011. AAngels NJ has since provided services and support to more than 100 underserved and underinsured women, and their families, as they battle against this deadly disease.
