RR Donnelley Facility Earns Recertification to Voluntary Protection Program Star Status By OSHA

Press release from the issuing company

Recognized for Best Safety Practices and Exemplary Safety Record

CHICAGO - R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company announced today that its Lynchburg, Va. facility has been recertified to Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration(OSHA). VPP certification is attained only after an organization undergoes a rigorous onsite evaluation conducted by a team of health and safety professionals. Star Status certification is the highest certification level granted by OSHA. RR Donnelley maintains five OSHA VPP Star Status-certified facilities.

Achievement of VPP certification requires employees, management, and OSHA to work cooperatively and proactively to prevent fatalities, injuries, and illnesses through a system focused on hazard prevention and control; worksite analysis; training; management commitment and worker involvement. Inclusion into the VPP is OSHA's official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health compliance and performance.

"Our organization is exceedingly proud of the accomplishments of our Lynchburg employees," said Dan Knotts, RR Donnelley's Chief Operating Officer. "Our documented safety programs serve as a foundation for a safe work place, but it is our management commitment, strong employee engagement, and the individual ownership of safety as a core value that allows our safety culture to produce such outstanding results."

VPP certification recognizes organizations that have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages in their respective industries. VPP participants are re-evaluated every three to five years to remain in the programs. VPP participants are exempt from OSHA programmed inspections while they maintain their VPP status.

"This recertification is the direct result of our employees' continuing commitment to operational excellence. Our employees in Lynchburg are an example of how our employees across the globe value safety as a core value of our operations," commented Michael Manzella, RR Donnelley's Senior Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality, & Chief Sustainability Officer.

RR Donnelley's Global Corporate Social Responsibility Report provides an overview of the company's performance in areas of safety, environmental impact and sustainability.
