Orlando, FL - August 19, 2015 - Conlatingraf, the Latin American Graphic Industry Confederation, together with Graphics of the Americas, today announces that Héctor Cordero Popoca has been named the 2016 Graphic Arts Leaders of the Americas (GALA) Award recipient. A special GALA luncheon award presentation will be held on February 18, 2016, during GOA, which takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center on February 18-20, 2016. The prestigious GALA Award, established in 1982, is one of the printing industry's top honors, and is given to professionals who excel in management, technology, business and quality. Those selected significantly contribute to the graphic arts industry and give back to the community. Members of the Printing Industry of America and Conlatingraf associations nominate the award recipients.

George Ryan, GOA president, says, "Together with Conlatingraf, we congratulate Héctor Cordero Popoca on his significant contributions to the graphic arts industry. We celebrate individuals like this who are a large part of why the printing industry continues to evolve around the world."

GALA Award Recipient -- Héctor Cordero Popoca

Héctor Cordero Popoca is a prominent industry figure due mostly in part to his involvement with various associations, and his work to improve industry leadership and communication. Hector was born in Mexico City into a family of distinguished Mexican printers.

He attended the Pan American Institute of Business Management (IPADE) and graduated with an MBA. He went on to establish Quincor, SA de CV, a graphic arts company that, together with Aquarela Grafica, SA de C.V., comprised the Cordero family group of companies.

In 1987, the companies joined the Mexican Industrial Group of Graphic Arts Companies (SIAG), and the National Chamber of Graphic Arts Industries (CANAGRAF).

Cordero Popoca held various positions with SIAG to represent the interests of smaller graphics companies in Mexico, and was elected president in 1996. He was instrumental in working with the Mexican government to authorize the importation of a large quantity of duty free printing stock, which increased industry competitiveness. SIAG also worked to support graphic arts entrepreneurs who contributed to training and industry productivity.

Héctor led many Mexican delegations with key trade shops in the region. He also participated in major Conlatingraf assemblies and congresses in Europe. After his term as SIAG president ended, he was elected Canagraf treasurer, vice president, and then president; a position he held until just recently. He currently serves as Conlatingraf's vice president, where he directs efforts to unify the region's graphics industry.
