AF&PA: EPA Should Respect Washington State’s Water Quality Rules

Press release from the issuing company

WASHINGTON – American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) President and CEO Donna Harman today issued the following statement in response to Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s announcement that he is not moving forward with his proposed Human Health Water Quality Criteria.

“The Clean Water Act envisions states as playing the lead role in developing their water quality standards. AF&PA supported the draft rule Governor Inslee developed for Washington state because it was a local, reasonable solution that balanced attainment and protectiveness for the state. We are disappointed Governor Inslee has withdrawn his proposal as a result of heavy-handed intervention from EPA. We hope Governor Inslee will develop a new rule rather than allow EPA to take over the process for the state.”
