Mundschenk Druck- und Vertriebsgesellschaft plans for the long term

Press release from the issuing company

Today German printing company Mundschenk Druck- und Vertriebsgesellschaft is faring as well as many other users in the print industry. From a mechanical point of view, the press in question meets the market’s demands in almost all respects, but its control system has been discontinued. Spare parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find and the press’ operational safety is at risk.

This is where the retrofit from PHS comes in. Specialists from this KBA subsidiary bowled over its German customers with individually tailored concepts during a series of in-depths talks. The complete control system from the reelstand to the folder will be replaced with cutting-edge, standard, hardware which will be available for a long time to come. The discontinued manufactured hardware will be made fit for the future with the latest console, drive, section control and production planning technology. PHS will guarantee the press’ availability 24/7 by remote service (PHS PressSupport).

Modular pre-finished assemblies are expected to facilitate the exchange of the electronic parts without any major impacts to production. During the day a parallel control system will be set up and tested, and at night production will continue as normal.

“We anticipate that cutting-edge control technology will considerably enhance the productivity and availability of our press. We will be able to react better to the demands of our ad clients with the upgrade options ordered,” says Dr Martin Mundschenk.

Project manager Timo Valentin confirmed this: “The retrofit of the control and drive systems carried out by PHS ensures the availability and performance of the existing press technology. The integrated upgrades will boost efficiency and create room for additional creativity within the current newspaper printing system.”

Founded in 1864, Mundschenk Druck- und Vertriebsgesellschaft is a family-run firm. Its product portfolio includes sheetfed, continuous, digital and newspaper printing. The Böhme-Zeitung newspaper published every working day and four other advertising supplements are produced on the ECOMAN. These products are published in associated companies. Furthermore, various commercial products and plant jobs are produced within the sphere of newspaper printing.
