GTI Graphic Technology Donates Soft View SOFV-1xiQ Soft Proofing Viewing Station to RIT

Press release from the issuing company

Award-winning viewer automates luminance matching with color monitors

Newburgh, NY - GTI Graphic Technology, Inc., the leading manufacturer of lighting systems for critical color viewing, color communication, and color match assessment, has donated a Soft View SOFV-1xiQ to Rochester Institute of Technology’s Printing Application Lab.

The Soft View SOFV-1xiQ is an optimized viewing station for soft proofing applications that provides superb lighting uniformity by meeting ISO 3664:2009 D50 lighting requirements. The SOFV-1xiQ includes a desktop viewing station and wireless iQ sensor. The hand held iQ sensor measures the brightness level of the monitor; this data is automatically transmitted to the viewer and used to achieve an optimal match of luminosity between the viewing station and monitor. The result is an accurate and easy color comparisons between hard copy prints and computer monitors.

RIT’s Printing Applications Laboratory provides the industry with verifiable approaches to control and improve the quality of their products and expand on the knowledge of printing industry professionals. The lab provides digital media certification programs, product/process auditing, competitive benchmarking, and assistance with product development.

“Idealliance, who is dedicated to identifying best practices for efficient end-to-end digital media workflows has asked us to develop a soft proofing certification program for them. The GTI SOFV- 1xiQ’s tight compliance to the ISO 3664:2009 standard and ability to maintain calibration and linearization of light output by automatically adjusting for ambient light will be a valuable tool to us as we work through the process of developing the certificate program,” says Barbara Giordano, operations manager at RIT’s Printing Application Lab

Robert McCurdy, President of GTI, comments, “We are pleased to support RIT and the Idealliance in their efforts. A properly implemented soft proofing system will shorten the production cycle, reduce cost, and improve customer satisfaction. I believe that the certificate program combined with new technologies, like our 1xiQ system, will help to further the acceptance and use of soft proofing.”
