Ricoh launches AFP2PDF Plus, broadening support for AFP transforms and multi-channel communications

Press release from the issuing company

Ricoh Americas Corporation today introduced AFP2PDF Plus, a new addition to the Ricoh Web Enablement solutions suite that enables customers to transform powerful Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) data streams into Web-ready electronic PDF documents.  In today’s new world of work, AFP2PDF Plus helps customers stay competitive by embracing electronic presentment as an additional method for reaching audiences, addressing them in a popular, cost-effective and easy-to-use format that encourages engagement and facilitates placing well indexed documents within workflows and records management systems.

With AFP2PDF Plus, the transform process is swift and accurate, producing electronic output with the same fidelity and precision that AFP has come to signify. The solution provides significant performance advances over the previous version of AFP2PDF, with performance tests showing improvement in pages transformed per second by up to four times. Written in JAVA, AFP2PDF Plus runs on a wide range of computing platforms, including AIX, Windows and Linux.

AFP2PDF Plus, with its high-performance JAVA multi-threaded client/server technology, has been designed to seamlessly integrate with both new and existing installations of IBM Content Manager OnDemand. Integrating AFP2PDF Plus into other software environments is simple due to its robust command line interface and JAVA API set.

Additional features include:

  • Ability to remove sensitive information, such as social security and credit card numbers to help meet Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements (when used with the optional AFP Visual Environment filter program software)
  • PDF Page Piece Dictionary Indexing for loading PDF data into content management systems, cutting data load time
  • Enhanced PDF encryption and security support, leveraging RC4 40- and 128-bit, AES 128- and 256-bit and digital signature protections

“In today’s business world, electronic communications are key. Print-only customers have a major disadvantage if they’re not able to reach that electronic market space with their message,” said John Fulena, Vice President, Production Print Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “In response to that growing trend, we have created the tools they need to stay competitive, maintain customer relationships, and more quickly respond to customer needs. AFP2PDF Plus ensures that customers can quickly and easily provide attractive, effective electronic presentment options for the communications they – and their customers – deliver.”
