The Trendsetter NEWS platesetter is the choice of both the Newsquest Oxford and the Cumbrian Newspapers Group. These leading United Kingdom newspaper publishers join the rapidly growing list of Creo newspaper customers in more than 20 countries around the world. The Trendsetter NEWS platesetter, the foundation of the Creo newspaper prepress solution, now features a new semi-automatic model and a choice of five speeds, ranging from 50 to 200 plates per hour. The newspaper solution also includes Fortis(TM) PN negative thermal plates; the Synapse NewsManager and the Prinergy Evo workflow systems-all from Creo. UK Newspapers Go Thermal Improved and consistent print quality, reduced production time with shorter make ready await the Newsquest Oxford which will install two Trendsetter NEWS 200 platesetters next month. Newsquest Oxford prints the Oxford Mail, Oxford Times, Swindon Evening Advertiser and Wiltshire Gazette & Herald. Newsquest, one of the UK's largest newspaper groups with more than 300 titles, is owned by Gannett Co., Inc., the largest newspaper publisher in the United States. Cumbrian Newspapers Group owned by CN Group Ltd. of UK, based in Carlisle, UK will install two Trendsetter NEWS 150 platesetters to produce 10 newspapers including The Cumbrian News and Business Gazette. New for Newspapers at drupa Creo is launching the new semi-automatic Trendsetter NEWS platesetter. This model provides an easy transition to CTP. The Fortis PN negative thermal plate from Creo targets the specific needs of newspaper printers requiring a robust plate with quick roll-up and low water consumption. The plate has excellent chemical wear and scratch resistance. The Fortis PN plate is Staccato 36 qualified at 1200 DPI. The Synapse NewsManager workflow, the new PDF workflow management system for newspaper prepress will help newspaper printers improve productivity, extend deadlines and grow sales. Based on open file formats, Synapse NewsManager integrates easily into newspaper printers' existing systems and enables a flexible and automated workflow, from edition plan to plate production. It includes the Edition Planner, which defines the attributes of upcoming publications; the Database Server, which reads edition plans, maintains workflow definitions and tracks all processing activity; and the Process Monitor, which allows operators and management to quickly visualize the overall status of the publication. Synapse NewsManager is scalable to meet the needs of any size printer, from contract printers to metropolitan, national and international dailies with multiple print sites. Prinergy Evo workflow controls prepress, plate and/or film production for maximum productivity and output quality. Prinergy Evo complements Synapse NewsManager with outstanding ease of use, which contributes to a low overall cost of ownership. Based on open file standards such as JDF and PDF, Prinergy Evo is ideally suited to newspaper prepress, providing the speed and flexibility that allows newspapers to extend close times and output large numbers of pages faster than ever before. With a PDF workflow, the newspaper publisher can use a standard internal file format that is optimized for efficient production, yet retains flexibility to allow for late changes and provides for high-quality, resolution-independent printing, including Staccato screening for photographic quality output, on different proofing devices and print technologies.
