U.S. Paper, Wood Products Manufacturers Lauds Introduction of Surface Transportation Board Reauthorization

Press release from the issuing company

WASHINGTON – American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) President and CEO Donna Harman today issued the following statement supporting introduction of the Surface Transportation Board (STB) Reauthorization by Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla). The bill would authorize the STB through FY 2019, along with other improvements such as expansion of voluntary arbitration procedures; expansion of STB authority to initiate investigations; and requirement of STB to study more efficient and simplified rate review methodologies, among others.

“We applaud Sens. Thune and Nelson for their leadership in introducing a reauthorization of the STB. Transportation of raw materials and products is an important issue for U.S. paper and wood product manufacturers, and AF&PA supports reform of the STB to address issues facing rail service. Our members need reliable transportation service at reasonable rates, and the reauthorization plan put forth by Sens. Thune and Nelson is a positive step forward.”
