Paper, Wood Products Industry Pushes for FIA Funding Following Release of White House Natural Resources Recommendations

Press release from the issuing company

WASHINGTON – American Forest & Paper Association President and CEO Donna Harman issued the following statement on the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s (CEQ) release of its natural resource recommendations under President Obama’s Climate Action Plan.

“CEQ correctly identified the Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) program as an essential element for measuring carbon stocks from one of the most abundant natural resources (trees).  We hope the administration and Congress will provide the funding the Forest Service needs to more frequently update and expand the data using actual on the ground information.

“Paper and wood products manufacturers rely on sustainably managed forests and are incredibly efficient in our use of raw materials, using the entire tree to make products, renewable energy, and more.  We hope that EPA’s pending framework on biogenic carbon accounting will correctly reflect the carbon neutral fuel we produce and use.”
