West-Camp Press Advances with Superior Quality Using EFI UltraDrop Technology

Press release from the issuing company

FREMONT, California - EFI™, a world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today reported that West-Camp Press, Westerville, Ohio, has expanded its superwide-format inkjet production capabilities with the purchase of an EFI VUTEk® GS3250LX Pro printer with UltraDrop™ Technology. West-Camp made the purchase – the company’s third new EFI VUTEk printer installed this year – to accommodate growing demand for high quality inkjet graphics as part of a complete offering that includes offset and digital printing, graphic design, web development and marketing services.

West-Camp Press has operated EFI VUTEk printers since 2007, when the company entered the superwide-format inkjet market to gain additional business from one of its existing commercial printing clients. Inkjet graphics investments for the 120-employee company have continued since that time. Most recently, explained Ed Evans, CEO of West-Camp Press, “We updated our fleet to include two EFI VUTEk GS5000r UV roll-to-roll printers and the new GS3250LX hybrid flatbed/roll-to-roll printer with UltraDrop, which gives us the level of quality and throughput required to support our large base of retail customers with signs and display graphics.”

Expanding capabilities with LED and UltraDrop’s high-definition quality

Evans and his team visited EFI VUTEk in Meredith, N.H., when they were considering the acquisition of the VUTEk GS3250LX Pro printer. “We were looking for the throughput and the high quality UltraDrop Technology provides,” Evans said, “but when we saw the capabilities we could gain with ‘cool cure’ LED, we got very excited. LED has turned out to be one of the biggest advantages the equipment offers, next to the high quality we get from UltraDrop Technology.”

West-Camp Director of Manufacturing Steve Chappelear added, “EFI’s cool cure LED curing allows us to use a wider variety of substrates than traditional heat-based UV curing. Not only do products produced this way incur less shipping costs, but we are now able to provide a broader range of products to our clients.”

EFI’s 7 picoliter grayscale UltraDrop Technology provides the ultimate in image quality, crispness and speed. West-Camp now benefits from having true multi-drop addressability in each dot position for high apparent resolution and high definition quality with four-level grayscale and two ink density levels. UltraDrop Technology also produces outstanding smoothness in shadows, gradients and transitions as well as superb text quality with four-point text in both standard and knockout modes.

Staying ahead with leading-edge technology

In addition to printers, West-Camp has installed several EFI MIS software and EFI Fiery® print server products over the years. The company’s relationship with EFI has been beneficial, according to Evans. “We like to stay on the leading edge with technology,” he said, “and we value partners who are constantly introducing new products and capabilities, ensuring we can go to market faster, delivering higher quality and more throughput. That’s exactly what EFI does for us, with superwide format inkjet, print MIS and our Fiery digital workflow.”

As a technology provider, the biggest validation we receive comes from witnessing the successes our customers achieve,” said Frank Mallozzi, EFI’s senior vice president, worldwide sales and marketing. “The opportunities West-Camp is generating with our products are excellent examples of the business advantage EFI strives to provide.”

EFI UltraDrop Technology for VUTEk printers will be highlighted in EFI’s upcoming exhibit at Graph Expo, Sept. 28-Oct. 1 in Chicago.
